Continuing with what has slowly become a Birthday Haul Theme Week – I bring you part two of the haul details. As you may have gathered from the Sneak Peak post, there were some Bobbi Brown and YSL items among the gifts.
Let’s start with YSL, shall we?
YSL Rouge Pur Couture Le Rouge No. 1
The Rouge Pur Couture line is said to be inspired by Saint Laurent’s iconic color palette: red, fuchsia and orange. The formula claims to contain a technology which offers intense, stay-true color while maintaining comforting moisture levels through the use of natural extracts. Medium to full coverage, satin finish.
If I could choose a color to define the YSL lipstick line, it would be Le Rouge No. 1. To me, it is a perfect red that does not lean too cool or too warm. And the packaging is just….orgasmic! The one thing my OCD brain is having trouble with is the fact that it does not fit into my lipstick holder, but with a color like this, I can overlook that. Also, as with any richly pigmented, red of this intensity, exfoliate and moisture for the ultimate statement red look. I’ll be breaking this one out during the holidays for sure.
YSL Gloss Volupté in Rose Orfèvre No. 19
The Gloss Voluptés are touted as a light weight non-sticky lip gloss formula that are characterised by an intense glossy-ness and “ethereal texture”. The “bouche-à-bouche” kiss-shaped applicator “envelops the lips with this elixir of seduction” and in a “breath of life, lips are filled with a reflective and radiant color”. Bouche-à-bouche literally translates “mouth to mouth” and I believe is used to refer to mouth to mouth resuscitation (i.e. kiss of life).
Rose Orfèvre is a beautiful neutral pink with golden shimmer. Apparently, there are three varieties of the glosses within the line: Golden top for “a dazzle of glitter”, Pure top coat for “intense shine”, and Smoking top coat for “a day to night look”. I not sure, however, how one is meant to distinguish which is which from the labeling. I featured lip swatches of three glosses, including Rose Orfèvre, on my Instagram account, here.
Onto the Bobbi Brown Goodies:
Bobbi Brown Bronzing Brush
I’ve coveted this highly expensive Bronzing Brush for a while now. Apparently, they redesigned it a few years ago after there were complaints of the former brush being a bit scratchy. I think this one is rather soft and great for adding bronzer for an over-all warmth (too large and wide for precise contouring). I’ll probably end up using it for powder and blush as well.
Bobbi Brown Lip Color in Rum Raisin
Rum Raisin is part of Bobbi Brown’s original formula line. It claims to “treat lips to rich color with a soft-matte finish” and is infused with Vitamins E and C as well as Beeswax to moisturize and comfort lips. This red-brown (with a barely there hint of plum) shade has been around for a while. It’s quite old school but I loved the way it looked on my lips. Also, it definitely a go-to deeper, Fall/Autumn appropriate nude.
I want to thank my Aunt, Cousin and Mum for these wonderful gifts! (P.S. These were some of the first photos taken with the new camera – still working on getting it they way I want!)
