Birthday Haul 2014 Part Two: Bobbi Brown and YSL

Birthday Haul 2014 Part Two - YSL and Bobbi Brown

Continuing with what has slowly become a Birthday Haul Theme Week – I bring you part two of the haul details. As you may have gathered from the Sneak Peak post, there were some Bobbi Brown and YSL items among the gifts.

Birthday Haul 2014 Part 2 - YSL and Bobbi Brown 2

Let’s start with YSL, shall we?

YSL Rouge Pur Couture Le Rouge No. 1

The Rouge Pur Couture line is said to be inspired by Saint Laurent’s iconic color palette: red, fuchsia and orange. The formula claims to contain a technology which offers intense, stay-true color while maintaining comforting moisture levels through the use of natural extracts. Medium to full coverage, satin finish.

YSL Lipstick Rouge Per Couture 1 Le Rouge

If I could choose a color to define the YSL lipstick line, it would be Le Rouge No. 1. To me, it is a perfect red that does not lean too cool or too warm. And the packaging is just….orgasmic! The one thing my OCD brain is having trouble with is the fact that it does not fit into my lipstick holder, but with a color like this, I can overlook that.  Also, as with any richly pigmented, red of this intensity, exfoliate and moisture for the ultimate statement red look. I’ll be breaking this one out during the holidays for sure.

YSL Gloss Volupté in Rose Orfèvre No. 19

The Gloss Voluptés are touted as a light weight non-sticky lip gloss formula that are characterised by an intense glossy-ness and “ethereal texture”. The “bouche-à-bouche” kiss-shaped applicator “envelops the lips with this elixir of seduction” and in a “breath of life, lips are filled with a reflective and radiant color”. Bouche-à-bouche literally translates “mouth to mouth” and I believe is used to refer to mouth to mouth resuscitation (i.e. kiss of life).

YSL Gloss Volupte Rose Orfevre

Rose Orfèvre is a beautiful neutral pink with golden shimmer. Apparently, there are three varieties of the glosses within the line: Golden top for “a dazzle of glitter”, Pure top coat for “intense shine”, and Smoking top coat for “a day to night look”. I not sure, however, how one is meant to distinguish which is which from the labeling. I featured lip swatches of three glosses, including Rose Orfèvre, on my Instagram account, here.

Onto the Bobbi Brown Goodies:

Bobbi Brown Bronzing Brush

I’ve coveted this highly expensive Bronzing Brush for a while now. Apparently, they redesigned it a few years ago after there were complaints of the former brush being a bit scratchy. I think this one is rather soft and great for adding bronzer for an over-all warmth (too large and wide for precise contouring). I’ll probably end up using it for powder and blush as well.

Bobbi Brown Lip Color in Rum Raisin

Rum Raisin is part of Bobbi Brown’s original formula line. It claims to “treat lips to rich color with a soft-matte finish” and is infused with Vitamins E and C as well as Beeswax to moisturize and comfort lips. This red-brown (with a barely there hint of plum) shade has been around for a while. It’s quite old school but I loved the way it looked on my lips. Also, it definitely a go-to deeper, Fall/Autumn appropriate nude.

Some people love them, so people are not so thrilled. The Rouge Coutures have more staying power and a nice formula. The Rouge Voluptés (in the gold candy like packaging) are more emollient and feel super luxe on the lips but have to be replied often. Let me know if you end up trying them. They are a bit of an investment. 🙂

  2. I’m a little bit jealous of your Bobbi Brown goodies, as I always am when I see them on blogs! I have access to many amazing brands but the one you can’t see when you want always appears more desirable 😉 That brush looks seriously amazing! Love the YSL picks too, I wish I could wear red more often, it’s so rare that I find one that suits me for some reason! I think there is a difference in the numbering for the YSL glosses, at least is what I think I worked out when picking my rigorously shimmer free one when they came out… I don’t remember the difference now though! 😉 xx

Hehe. I was feeling the same which is why I had to pick them up, lol. Lately I’ve been envious of all of the Charlotte Tilbury hauls I’ve been seeing around. There’s one more massive MAC haul coming and then I have to take it easy I think…. I’ve been using the Bobbi Brown Bronzing Brush everyday and I’m in LOVE (even though it’s so spendy). Hope you had a lovely weekend, hun! xoxo

I haven’t worn it yet but so excited to!

  4. Another great birthday haul! I’m in love with my Bobbi Brown sheer powder brush. Blush, Bronze, Highlighter, powder,.. does all the good things! They are quite pricey ofcourse. Which is too bad. 🙁 I recently bought the YSL Rouge pur couture in nr.31 which is a lovely berry shade! Love the formula, as usual from YSL. x

Of course, now I think I need that shade as well..hehe. But I think I may go on a no buy of sorts in October (with one exception, I’m going away for a few days). YSL is definitely a worthy obsessive! 🙂

  5. I have that bronzer brush! It’s started to shed after 3 years, but to be honest I do use and misuse it a lot! I love Rouge Volupte Shine, but I haven’t tried Rouge Pur Couture! Definitely need to look into it now 🙂

    1. Aww, thanks hun! And Thank you for the Birthday Wishes! If all birthdays are like this one, I wish they were more often too – minus the getting older thing. Not that I have an issue with getting older but one year at a time is enough for me. 🙂

  6. Wow, you got lovely luxurious things! I am lusting after that Bobbi Brown brush <3

    1. Thank you, Rachel. I’m still loving the stuff months later. The Bobbi Brown brush does shed at first but it has stopped completely now. Pricey but lovely. Thanks for stopping by, hun. 🙂
