Two Brand Spotlights in one week? This is the stuff of Blogmas. Today we’re taking a look at Algenist Skincare. Algenist is a clinical skincare brand that promises to deliver anti-aging innovation using Microalgae. According to the company’s back story, the scientists behind the brand were studying Microalgae as a source of environmentally sustainable and renewable energy. An unexpected result was discovering Microalgae’s ability to survive, thrive and regenerate despite exposure to the harshest of environments. The compound responsible for this is Alguronic Acid which promises to bring “unprecedented, scientifically measured anti-aging benefits to the skin”. Alguronic Acid is the key ingredient around which Algenist skincare products are built.
It all sounds pretty fancy, huh? Everyone that I’ve heard talk about Algenist, loves their products and for good reason. The deluxe sizes featured in this post were gifts with purchase but I’ve owned a few full sizes in the past. Although the line is expensive, I think that they make some wonderful products for the 30+ market.
Algenist Advanced Anti-Aging Repairing Oil
The Algenist Advanced Anti-Aging Repairing Oil is “an advanced oil that delivers the performance of a powerful anti-aging serum with the unique experience of an oil”. It promises to be fast absorbing and non-greasy, instantly replenishing moisture while repairing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, restoring elasticity and leaving the skin looking firmer, and more supple. It is formulated with microalgae oil, ceramides and a brown algae extract. Retails for $79.00 USD.
Originally, my mother purchased a full size of this last year and I was constantly pinching a few drops every time I visited her. This is a supremely luxurious oil that leaves the skin feeling spectacular. I agree on all fronts – it is fast absorbing and not at all greasy (feels more like a serum than an oil). When I use this, not only does my skin look more healthy but it feels more healthy. Both immediately after use as well as over the long term. Highly, highly recommend.
Algenist Regenerative Anti-Aging Moisturizer
The Algenist Regenerative Anti-Aging Moisturizer contains SPF 20 sunscreen protection and Algenists’ signature anti-aging ingredient: alguronic acid. It is a day cream which promises to nourish the skin, restore moisture, and rebuild firmness and elasticity while protecting from UVA and UVB. Retails for $90.00 USD.
This is very rich moisturizer that is best suited for colder months or those with dry or dehydrated skin. Although substantial, it does not feel heavy on the skin. I’ve enjoyed using it and will continue to do so, but I probably wouldn’t purchase the full size.
Algenist Complete Eye Renewal Balm
The Algenist Complete Eye Renewal Balm is a “rich yet lightweight balm [which] hydrates and soothes the eye area to decrease puffiness and dark circles”. It also contains Alguronic Acid to fight visible signs of aging. Retails for $65.00 USD.
This eye cream looks and feels a lot like whipped butter (but less greasy, obviously). My first time using it, I was immediately struck by contrast between the rich texture and the extreme lightness of this cream. It absorbs almost immediately after application, hydrating my eye area like nothing else I’ve tried. I’d definitely drop the cash for a full size.
