We’re back today with a Brand Spotlight! For those of you who may not know, “Brand Spotlight” is a series where I review several products from a single brand, one that is usually new to me. And that definitely applies to this feature because until acquiring these products, I’d never tried a single product from CK One Color (Calvin Klein Color Cosmetics).
Calvin Klein launched the CK One Color line of cosmetics back in 2012. As far as I can tell, the brand has limited distribution. In the U.S., I’m pretty sure the line is found exclusively at ULTA and I believe it is also carried in certain departments stores in Europe and Australia. CK One Color is definitely not sold anywhere in The Bahamas. I purchased these products in ULTA while visiting the U.S.
CK One Color Mascara – True Black
CK says: A precision curved brush and patented lycra technology amplifies, shapes, and lifts every lash for maximum volume. This is one of those “dual wand”, twist brush applicator mascaras. There is a mechanism located on the cap of the mascara which either shortens or lengthens the rubber bristled wand. The longer setting promises to lengthen/define lashes while the short setting volumizes. Formula wise, it is wetter mascara but definitely very light weight (doesn’t feel heavy on the lashes at all).
The pros of this mascara is that it is fairly buildable and doesn’t clump of flake. For my lashes (sparse and thin), the longer setting does an O.K. job at lengthening but the shorter setting doesn’t seem to add that much volume. I could definitely live with the more natural look, BUT, this mascara doesn’t control my lashes well enough. It gives me those weird ends where the tips of my lashes are pointing in all different directions. Retails for $18.00 USD.
CK One Color All Day Perfection Lipcolor – Untamed (210)
CK says: A creamy lip color that provides the perfect combination of color and comfort. Easy to apply and glides on evenly for a longwearing, shiny finish. Innovative technology combines myrrh and Japanese wax for comfortable coverage without a greasy feel, leaving lips feeling kissably soft.
This is a very comfortable, liquid lipstick type formula that is thicker in texture (more like a traditional lipstick). With fully opaque coverage in one swipe, it wore well for about five-six hours without eating. My lips felt moisturized and not dried out. Untamed is a medium, warm pink with a hint of berry. As it wears down, it does stain the lips, but because the shade darkens over time, the stain left behind is slightly darker than the original color. Bear in mind, this behaves like a normal lipstick would (transferring if you press your lips against something). Retails for $16.00 USD
CK One Color Cream and Powder Blush Duo – Grace (200)
CK says: Contour and color. Gloss cream and micro-fine powder create versatile effects with a luminous, lighter-than-air finish. This cream/powder blush duo promises to deliver a natural looking glow with buildable, blendable color. It also claims to be long-wearing and light-weight.
Grace is a combination of a ruddy, warm peach (cream) and a light beige-brown (powder). Originally, I thought the color combination might work well to contour my light/medium skin tone, but the cream portion is just a little too red.
As for the powder portion, although it appears quite sheer in swatches, it’s little more pigmented once applied to the cheeks. The cream half has a silky, silicone-like texture that reminds me of the NYX cream blushes if you’ve ever tried them. It’s not so much creamy in texture as it is emollient. That being said, it does feels smooth and seamless when applied to the skin.
Instructions suggest using a sponge or fingers to dab the cream blush onto cheeks but I prefer a brush (works well with a stippling brush or even a fluffier traditional blush brush). If I wear the cream part alone, it gives my light/medium skin tone a healthy looking flush – not quite sun-kissed but not winter bitten either. Quite a lovely, Fall/Autumn appropriate shade, actually. The powder portion mattifies the look somewhat and the overall effect is more neutral. Retails for $25.00 USD.
Personally, my favorite product of the bunch is the Cream and Powder Blush Duo, but the liquid lipsticks is also quite nice (I love that it’s such a comfortable wear).
