It’s Brand Spotlight time! Today I’m really excited to talk about a brand that maybe isn’t always in the spotlight (ahem). Lipstick Queen was started by Australian Entrepreneur Poppy King, who, twenty-years ago, in her search for a perfect lipstick, created her own company. Lipstick Queen is inspired by the “transformational power of a simple slick of lipstick” as Poppy seeks to create the “perfect textures and shades to express every facet of a woman’s personality”.
The range of lipstick formulas and colours is exceptional and I must say, there is probably something for everyone.
Since I’m a girl who likes pigment when it comes to lipsticks, I was drawn to the Sinner line which are designed “to be the ultimate full-coverage matte lipsticks with 90% pigment”. Although matte and full coverage, the Sinner formula also claims to be creamy, to glide on easily while lasting beautifully and feeling great on the lips. They are also fragrance and shimmer-free.
I purchased the shade Sinner – Berry, which is described as “deep mocha with a delicious pinkish hue”. To me, it looks like a darkened red-berry. Depending on how many passes you make (and you really don’t need to make more than one), the “mocha” will come through a little more. I love how Berry looks on the the lips and definitely recommend it as a go-to, glamorous option for the season. Being a matte it is not the most moisturizing of lipsticks, but still one of those formulas that is a pleasure to apply, know what I mean? Also, it lasts a long time (5+ hours) and exhibits minimal transfer.
Did I mention how much I LOVE how this looks on my lips! What do you guys think? For those of you not crazy about too bold of a colour, every Sinner shade is also available in the Saint formulation (gold packaging) which is formulated with 10% pigment instead of 90% for a tint of color.
The Big Bang Theory lip glosses claim to have “exactly the right ratio of shimmer to shine” to “create the illusion of plumper lips” without the sting that many lip plumping glosses contain. Rather, it “blurs the light and gives the illusion of plumper, fuller lips”. The “serum type formula” also claims to be non-gloopy and stick free, while moisturizing and leaves the lips feeling conditioned.
There was something about the colour of Space that drew me in like a moth to the light. Isn’t the it absolutely fantastic? Even though Space is described as a shimmery grey pink, I would call it a cool purple, grey taupe. It is so different from anything I own. I just had to have it. Applied alone, the gloss is not super opaque but adds interesting dimension to the lips (and does make them appear fuller, I think). Also, I completely agree that this gloss is not sticky whatsoever and feels like heaven on the lips, I just want to keep smacking them together.
My lips were a little chapped the day I did the swatch so I did notice the colour settle into lip lines a bit. However, it didn’t happen today (wearing the gloss now), probably because I exfoliated. Despite being an “out of box” option, I think Space will actually pair well with a wide range of lip colours from purple and mauves to cool pinks and reds.
Final verdict? I’m in love with both products and it’s going to be tough not to pick up more! You can find Lipstick Queen on the company’s website, ULTA, Space NK and Beautybar.com
