Remember the days when all of our beauty advice came from magazines? Perhaps it shows my age, but I fondly recall flippinng through those magical, glossy pages looking for the scoop on the latest beauty products. Years later, its a rare occasion when I’ll actually purchase a magazine and they don’t hold the same mysterious wonder they once did. We’re all jaded and know better, right? But when I found out ‘that the super luxurious Burberry Effortless Eyebrow Definer was a 2015 Allure Best of Beauty winner, I have to admit I was more than curious…
Burberry says: Create the signature Burberry brow with Effortless Eyebrow Definer. The dual-ended eyebrow pencil and brush effortlessly define and shape, creating naturally fuller-looking brows. Filling in sparse hairs and adding subtle colour, the slanted, triangular tip and powder texture allow for total precision.
Like all of the other brow pencils I’ve reviewed in the Battle of the Brows, this pencil is a dual-ended component with the spooley on one end and the retractable product on the other. It is also characterized by a slanted, triangular tip designed to allow for some precision while also covering a larger area of the brow, making quick work of “doing your brows”.
I really like the sleek gun metal-style packaging. Actually, the overall aesthetic of this pencil is really similar to the Hourglass Arch Brow which I reviewed last week.
The Burberry Effortless Eyebrow Definer is available in 5 shades. I purchased the shade Ebony which is a blackened-brown. For some reason the brown tones show up more in photos but to the naked eye, Ebony definitely appears more black than brown.
Apparently this brow pencil is a YouTube favorite but I’ve only ever read the reviews on Sephora. One reviewer complained of poor pigmentation and having to pass the pencil over the brows several times. In fact, because of this, they posited that the product might be better suited for those with thick brows wanting to fill in a little rather than those with sparse brows. But I found the opposite to be true. Perhaps it’s because I chose the darkest color, but to me, the pencil deposited plenty of pigment The first time I used it, I applied with too much pressure and ended up with very dark brows indeed. That being the case, I’d really recommend starting at the arch of the brow and working towards the tail, using very, very light strokes.
As far as texture goes, the pencil really is creamy but holds it shape. It contains wax which helps the color to cling and has a powder finish. Lasting power was great at about 9+ hours.
The Burberry Effortless Eyebrow Definer is very similar to the Hourglass Arch Brow. The two products are almost identical in texture and performance. When comparing Burberry’s Ebony to Hourglass’ Natural Black, I’d say that Ebony is ever so slightly darker and more pigmented. You definitely get a very defined look. Actually, I’m not sure if I think it’s too black. The Burberry Eyebrow Definer contains 0.009 oz of product and retails for $33.00 USD. I purchased at Sephora.
