Just a quick post today guys. More of show and tell. Which, I guess, when you really think about it is basically what reviews are: show and tell. Anyway, I was gifted (by a loved one, not by the company) a couple of beauties from the Chanel Les Sautoirs de Coco collection: the Perles et Fantaisies highlighter and Rouge Allure Velvet lipstick in La Délicate. Seeing as the collection seems to still be widely available, thought I’d share my opinion on them.
Chanel says: Inspired by Gabrielle ‘Coco’ Chanel’s love of pearls, the Chanel Les Sautoirs de Coco makeup collection glimmers with iridescent and luminous shades of white, pink and soft grey, while classic black elements bring an unexpected contrast to the soft colour range.
I’m a huge fan of the Rouge Allure Velvet formula but I have to say that La Délicate disappointed me a little. The formula of the Rouge Velvets is described by Chanel as a “non-drying matte lipstick [that] glides on lips with intensely rich, long-wearing colour and a sumptuously soft, velvet matte finish”. I would say that is true of every other Rouge Velvet shade I have in my collection (as of today) except this one.
La Délicate doesn’t have the signature velvet matte texture that make the Rouge Allure Velvets so special and there is far more slip to this particular shade as well. It feels and wears more like a sheer satin. I could live with that because the color is so pretty – a pastel peach with pink undertones. But to make matters worse, it applies patchy on me.
Did I have better luck with the Perles et Fantaisies highlighter? First off, this is another stunning limited edition compact by Chanel. It’s just so, so pretty. The raised pearl pattern is feminine, girly and fun. Even the packaging is special, I draw your attention to the embossed pearls on the side of the box and the pink accents. It’s the little things…
I’d heard some mixed reviews about the formula – the main “complaint” being that it was not pigmented or “highlighty” enough. This highlighter is definitely best suited for fair to light skin tones. One side is white, the other pink, both cool toned. I used the two-sides mixed together and you mostly get the white with the slightest hint of pink. As far as pigmentation/highlight power goes, Perles et Fantaisies is not one of those “in your face” highlights (theBalm’s Mary Loumanizer and Becca come to mind). However, in my opinion, there is plenty enough pigment. It’s just a little more subtle. I’d also heard some people say that they experienced difficulty picking up enough product and really having to dig in with a dense brush. Again, I didn’t have this problem. My *EcoTools Deluxe Fan Brush and *Sedona Lace Tulip Contour brush (both of which I regularly use with all of my highlighters) worked fine.
Overall, I’m happy with the Perles et Fantaisies highlighter which actually applies better to the face than it swatches. The Rouge Allure Velvet lipstick in Délicate, on the other hand, was, unfortunately, a bit of a let down.
