Confession: I followed the ULTA associate around the store while she wheeled around a Covergirl display featuring the new Covergirl XL Nail Gel polishes and the new Covergirl Colorlicious lip glosses. I suppose she was doing some sort of inventory before placing the display in it’s designated area. You see, I was just about to check-out when I spotted, out of the corner of my eye, the bright, shiny glow of new products weaving in and out of the aisles. Knowing that my time was limited, after all I was only going to be in Florida three days and this would probably be the only time I’d be in an ULTA, I wanted to take full advantage of everything that was available. And so, I lay in wait in the hair aisle, feigning interest in the ingredients list of some shampoo I had no intention of buying.
While I hadn’t really read any detailed reviews prior to my purchase, I had noticed a few posts about the new polishes and glosses being released in the U.S. in July. The allure of newness, however, peaked my interest so I waited patiently until the associate had gone about her business. Five shampoo bottle ingredient lists later, after re-positioning it several times, she finally left the display alone for my keen perusal.
I ended up picking out one gloss and one polish. I wanted to give the gel polish a decent wear test (look out for that post this weekend), so first up is the Covergirl Colorlicious Lip Gloss review.
According to Covergirl, these new glosses are “dripping with shine” and “ripe with color” helping you to achieve a “lustrous, vibrant shine and rich true-to-tube color without all of that stickiness”. The formula claims to be conditioning and moisturizing, leaving lips feeling “soft and silky and weightless”.
I was drawn to the shade Candylicious 620 mostly due it’s duo chrome quality (which I hope you are able to see at least a little from photos). It reminds me of a high end gloss who’s name is not coming to mind, despite my best efforts to rack my brain. Anyway, I would describe Candylicious as a frosted violet-pink with a gold-green shift. Applied this does not add a ton of colour, but the pigment is fair and the duo chrome adds some interest and dimension to the lips.
This gloss does not feel sticky, is very light weight and comfortable on the lips. There is no obvious glitter which clings to the lips nor the slightest bit of a gritty feeling. The formula has a sweet, pleasant smell that is somewhat vanilla-like. It is not (and doesn’t claim to be) long-lasting, so reapplying is necessary (every hour or two). I would say that anyone who likes a no fuss, easy lip gloss that is not sticky whatsoever, would enjoy this formula.
I’m pretty sure these will be permanent so there is no hurry to grab ’em if you haven’t seen them yet. Next time I am state-side (or if these come to The Bahamas), I might consider picking up one or two more. They retail for $7.99 and up (ULTA, CVS, and Amazon). Have any of you guys tried this formula? What are your thoughts? Color recommendations?
