When I purchased the Fall Harvest palette from the Fall 2015 collection a few weeks back, I’d also grabbed the Dolce and Gabbana Lushies #146 eye shadow palette. I’m not sure when this quad was first released and in what collection as I couldn’t find much information about it online. But what I do know is that, like all of the other D&G quads I own, it was the uniqueness of this beauty that drew me in…
The Dolce and Gabbana Smooth Eye Colour Quads are characterized by a highly reflective gold compact housed in a black velvet pouch for that added touch of luxury. I think I may have said this before, but the compact is not metal throughout. I think it’s probably a heavy plastic with a metallic covering but this doesn’t make it feel cheap in any way whatsoever.
Of their eye shadow quads in general, Dolce and Gabbana notes that they offer “a complete day-to-night look…delivering smooth buildable colour with extended 8-hour wear.” I believe there are 16 permanent palettes available in the line in a variety of shades and finishes (matte, metallic, satin, pearl). The formula can be applied wet or dry. Made in Italy.
The eye shadow shades included in the Lushies palette are (clockwise from left to right): a shimmery light taupe, a bright medium true red, a deep satin brown and a deeper, cool taupe. It is essentially a composition of cooler, neutral shades with the red thrown in to spice things up.
Like I’ve said before, the texture of the Dolce and Gabbana shadows don’t tend to disappoint – extremely soft and creamy. Both of the shimmery taupe shades applied and blended beautifully. The satin brown was tad drier than the others but still it blended very well. I was most surprised by how effortless the matte red transferred and blended on the lid – considering how bright it is.
At first, I was stumped as to how to incorporate this bold shade into an eye look. In the end, I thought the best way to do this and still make it wearable was to blend and diffuse the red into the crease – adding some interest to what would otherwise be a very neutral eye look.
The Dolce and Gabbana Smooth Eye Colour Quads retail for $62.00 USD (£42.00) and I found Lushies #146 at Sephora online.
