February Favorites: Short and Sweet

Like the month itself, this February Favorites will be short and sweet.  Five items stood out to me during the past four weeks (which, by the way, seemed to fly by). It’s also been an extremely busy month and I’ve looked to products that I can rely on to get me through without having to think about anything too much.

February Favorites

Makeup Geek Eyeshadows Custom Palette: So, if you’ve caught any of my posts over the past few weeks, you know I’ve purchased a new palette (or two…..three). These need additions, coupled with rotating in my other palettes means I haven’t really used one long enough for it to be considered a favorite of the month. BUT, the companion to almost all these palettes (with some exceptions), have been my Make Up Geek eyeshadows. My small Z palette contains 7 matte MUG shadows which I use almost everyday as crease/transition/blending shades. Check out this post for details and swatches, if you’re interested.

February Favorites Makeup Geek Eye Shadows

YSL Tint in Oil Pink About Me: A product I’ve grown to really love since first purchasing it a couple of months ago. This hydrating oil formula leaves behind a gorgeous fuchsia pink stain that is so natural looking and as comfortable as a balm the lips.  I’ve featured it in two posts here and here.

Estee Lauder Double Wear High Cover Concealer: I don’t think I’ve talked about this concealer since featuring it in my first CCO Haul back in December. Although it is potted concealer, I find it sufficiently creamy to use under the eyes, but not so creamy that it creases. The coverage is also on point if you’re looking for something on the fuller end.
Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in Dim Light: Most days, especially in cooler months, I use either my NARS light reflecting powder or the Hourglass Ambient powder in Dim Light to set my makeup. It creates a subtle soft focus that I love and the peach really compliments my skin’s undertones.

Dr. Dennis Gross Acne Eliminating Pads: After trying some samples of the pads, I was so impressed that I purchased a full size which retails for $32.00 USD and contains 45 pads. If you use these everyday, they will last you a month and a half.  However, the method that works best for me is to use the pads for five nights in a row, after cleansing and before moisturizing. This usually clears any bad breakouts that I might have – and then to maintain I use one pad every third night. Using them this way, they should last me a few months.  They’ve completely replaced any topical creams I was using to treat acne breakouts.

February Favorites Estee Lauder and Hourglass

That concludes my February Favorites. What have you been loving this month? And no worries, Social Media favorites will be back in full force next month!

    1. Her shadows are so awesome for the price, Katie. You’d love them!

  4. Nice picks Kimmy! Ive been wanting to try the MUG eyeshadows for a while now but havent indulged yet! I think now I might even wait some more..with the Canadian dollar being as low as it is :s THey do loook so purdy and esp. in that cute palette. YES YES i always squeal in excitement when i see the EL concealer mentioned. Its such an amazing concealer – use it every single day! I have DIffused light from the ambient powder collection but unfortunately it did nothing for me. I do see people have had better luck with Dim light though! Hope alls well with you Kimmy!

    1. Thank you, Dee. I hope you do get a chance to try the MUG shadows one day, she does a good job overall and the price isn’t crazy. I do love the EL concealer! I was so surprised by how well it worked under the eyes. Sorry to hear that Diffused Light didn’t work out for you. I’ve not tried that one – the only two I own are the Dim and Mood Light, both of which I enjoy. 🙂 xo

  5. I love the shades in your Z palette! I really want an Hourglass highlighter too xx

    Magpie Jasmine

    1. Thank you, Jasmine. 🙂 I wouldn’t call the Hourglass powders highlighters in the traditional sense…I’m sure you probably know this, but just in case, I consider them more like finishing powders. Especially Dim Light. But I think Diffused is more highlighter like. 🙂

  6. I really want to try one of the YSL Tints in Oil, I keep hearing fab things about them! Well, I need to go to Sephora to see if there’s something new and to check if the Marc Jacobs Contour palette has finally arrived… So it seems one is going to be mine soon 🙂 xx

    1. The YSL Tint in Oil was definitely one of the products I sort of liked at first but then really fell in love with the more I used it. It’s all in that dry down I tell ya. I have so much catch up to do! Maybe by the time I make it over to your blog, you may have a new purchases? Hehe. xo

  7. The Makeup Geek shadows look so pretty! I haven’t tried any of their products yet, but I should change it this year 😀

    Pink Frenzy

    1. Definitely go for it, Laura, if it’s in your budget. They are an amazing value! xo

Lovely favourites! I don’t really understand how the Hourglass Lighting powders work. An Hourglass make up artist applied some on me when I was in store and honestly.. I did not see any sort of difference whatsoever! 😮

    1. Hehe. That’s probably because you already have really great (and youthful) skin! 🙂 I’ve only ever tried two – Dim Light and Mood Light and I use them not to highlight but all over the face, like the Nars Reflecting Powder. Dim Light has peach tones in it – and my undertones are warm (yellow/peach) but I suffer from occasionally redness as well texture issues on my cheeks – so I find that Dim Light subtly evens things out if that makes sense. Mood Light is Lavender – so I wear it mostly at night. The evening light combined with the very very subtle lavender create a soft hallow effect. It’s probably nothing that anyone else notices but I enjoy them! xo

That’s good to know, thanks! I think it was Ethereal light or something that they applied on me at certain points on my face.. but as much as I turned my face in different angles and lights I simply didn’t see anything happening!

  8. I’m obsessed with Makeup Geek eyeshadows. They are so good and the price is incredible. Have you tried their foiled eyeshadows? They are amazing! 🙂 x

  9. So wanting the Hourglass Ambient Lighting powder!!!

    1. I can’t recommend Dim Light enough, it’s fantastic. I also have Mood Light which I enjoy. Haven’t tried the others though. xo

  10. Your Makeup Geek palette looks so so pretty! You put in some really lovely shades.

    1. Thanks, Melissa! I contemplated the shade selection for a long time! 🙂

  11. I have yet to get my grabby hands on the MUG shadows! I have a customized MAC palette that I put all my “essential” colors together such as the crease and outer corner colors and use it as a companion palette to my other palettes. It comes in handy! 🙂

    1. You NEED to get you son Makeup Geek, Jaa! Hehe. Would love to see your palette, do you have a review up? I have a 15 pan MAC palette that contains a range of different shades and finishes. I contemplated breaking it down into a small companion palette like this MUG one but it probably isn’t necessary. Especially as I purchased the Viseart Neutral Palette not so long ago. xo

I love MUG shadows too! My fave Hourglass powders are Diffused Light and Mood Light. I think Mood is more purple than Dim. We def have the same taste in makeup! xx

    1. Hehe. Well, of course we both must have incredible taste! 🙂 I should look into Diffused Light. I never gave that one proper consideration. xo
