Happy Holidays, everyone! (And Merry Christmas to everyone who celebrates.) Today will be my last Blogmas Post. Whew. I wasn’t sure I’d get through the 25 days but I managed alright, only missing one day (December 17th).
Before I get started with this post, I want to wish everyone much joy and happiness during this time when many of us will be with family, friends and other loved ones. I know that everyone is super busy and it truly warms my heart that you stop by to check out what’s happening on this blog and maybe say “Hello”. Your comments, readership and support mean so very much to me. Hugs to you all. xo
Now let’s talk about nails! What now seems like eons ago, I was gifted by my mother the Formula X Nail System (sold at Sephora). It’s been sitting in my review pile looking all sad and lonesome. However, when, because of my ridiculous spending habits, I received the Sephora Formula X VIB Rouge Edition Color in “X ♥ Rouge” a bright, candy apple red – I thought, oh this is perfect for the season. So I finally dusted the kit off and today you guys are getting a Formula X System Review!
How the Formula X System Works
Formula X’s The System features four steps and products designed to help you achieve a flawless, high-gloss, chip-resistant, long-lasting manicure. The set comes with the Nail Cleanser, Base Coat, and Top Coat and you get to pick a color of your choice from the line. (This can be done online as well). The set retails for $32.00 USD which includes the color polish.
Starting with the Cleanse, sweep the nail cleanser, which is “infused with witch hazel, vitamin E, and cucumber extract” over your nails to get rid of oil and residue. This is meant to optimize base coat adherence.
Next, Prime using the base coat, which Formula X notes in “an advanced multitasking primer that works to prevent staining, aids in protecting the natural nail, and acts as an adhesive layer, allowing color to take hold”.
Step 3, apply the nail Color of your choice. As mentioned, I’m using the color “X ♥ Rouge”. When I got the set, I had choosen Demolition which I featured here.
Finally, apply some Shine with the top coat, which claims to be super glossy and fast drying, delivering “the ultimate gel-like shine and relentless stay-true color”.
My manicure lasted for a full 7 days with no noticeable chipping or wear along the tips of the nails. Toward the middle of second week, the color began to fade along the edges of the nail. By the end of the second week, more wear but no chips. On day 15, I finally removed easily with regular nail polish remover.
So do I recommend the system and how do I find it compares to my regular routine? Usually, I use nail polish remover to clean my nail bed before applying color. The base coat I had been using is by OPI, while my regular, tried and true top coat is Sally Hansen’s Insta-Dri (in the bottle). This routine usually gets me a full week of wear with the polish still looking decent. Formula X out performs my regular routine slightly in terms of wear-time and is slightly more glossy. However, where it does get the most brownie points is convenience – it’s just so easy to use.
