Sheer lip products are all the rage this season and their popularity and proliferation have perfectly coincided with my desire for a simpler, easy lip. I’m usually a fan of matte, satin or cream finishes with plenty of pigment to boot. But since becoming a mama bear, I find that even on the days I wear a full face of makeup and rock major eyes – I’m looking for a low maintenance lip. While there are definitely many long lasting, non-transferring full color options out there – I’ve been the mood for balm-like products that offer some color. The YSL Oil In Sticks that I reviewed a couple weeks ago are fantastic but I think I may have just found the best sheer lipstick-balm hybrid product ever (as far as high end goes) in the Guerlain KissKiss Roselip in Chic Pink…
The Guerlain KissKiss Roselip tinted balms (‘Bloom of Rose’ collection) were actually released last Fall (2015). Guerlain says that this is their first hydrating and plumping tinted lip balm boasting an expert formula infused with rose extract, moisturizing jojoba oil and hyaluronic acid. Lips as soft and smooth as petals of rose, deserve the most delicate attention and the most luminous colors. Subtly colored, the lips are adorned with a soft and natural glow. Kiss Kiss Roselip offers 6 shades for naturally irresistible lips, inspired by the delicate hues of freshly hatched roses.
First off, the packaging is beautiful, isn’t it? The weighted iconic KissKiss block casing is offered in a sleek white lacquer and embossed with the Guerlain insignia in gold. It screams luxury.
I choose the shade Chic Pink which is a sheer warm, pinky nude. Once applied, I can see my natural lips peek through but there is definitely some color there. The finish of the Roselip is not glossy but more of satin-shine. It is extremely comfortable on the lips with a slight tackiness that is balmy, not waxy. Though not an active plumping product – I do feel that Chic Pink makes my lips look more plump and juicy. Bear in mind, it looks a little different on my lips than it does in my hand swatches as the mauve tone of my lips tends to make colors appear cooler, especially with sheerer formulations.
When I wore Chic Pink for the first time I immediately thought of two products in my collection that might be similar in both color and formula: my MAC Sheen Supreme in Impressive and my Chanel Rouge Coco Shine in Boy.
MAC’s Impressive is warmer, deeper and more pigmented than Guerlain’s Chic Pink. They have a similar texture and feel on the lips, though Chic Pink is more light weight and Impressive is more glossy.
Chanel’s Boy is pinker and cooler than Guerlain’s Chic Pink. While they both offer a semi-sheer finish, the Chanel Rouge Coco Shine formula has more slip and less tack than the Guerlain Roselip.
The Guerlain KissKiss Roselip in Chic Pink maybe one of my favorite balm-lipstick products ever (so far). I really enjoy the texture and feel on the lips. Yes, it’s sheer, which is not everyone’s taste, especially at this price point but I’m a fan. For those with sensitive noses, this does have a faint floral scent. Retails for $37.00 USD/£27.00. I purchased mine from Neiman Marcus but you can purchase the KissKiss Roselips from Sephora, Nordstrom, Debenhams, John Lewis, and similar retailers.
