January Empties: Makeup, Skincare and the Lot

We didn’t have that many empties this month. Yes, I know it’s still plenty but compared to previous months, it’s a bit of a step down. As always I’ll offer “mini reviews” on the below identified January empties as well as indicate whether I’ll repurchase with a (Y) is “Yes”, (M) is “Maybe” or (N) is “No”.

January Empties – Makeup and Miscellaneous:

January Empties - Makeup

Assorted Lip glosses (M): I talked about these in my Project Make a Dent Posts #1 and #2 if you want the details. I’d probably repurchase the Maybelline formula (and possibly the Hourglass) at some point.

Cover Fx BB Gel – Mattifying Anti-Blemish Treatment (M): I talked about this a little bit in a past favorites and it works really nicely to hide/treat blemishes.

Revlon ColorStay Under Eye Concealer (N): Tried this on a whim. I’d been meaning to do a full review but I never got around to it. The formula is on the thinner side and coverage is light. Also, I feel like I used it up really fast. It doesn’t cover darkness as well as I’d like but it doesn’t crease so there’s that.

Stila Stay All Day Liquid Liner (Y): This and Kat Von D’s Tropper, are my favorite two black liquid liners of life so far. The flexible soft felt tip pen makes it easy for everyone to use. This product is why I started wearing liquid liner.

Anastasia Brow Gel (Y): I can’t say I’ve compared very many brow gels. This is a deluxe sample size of the well-loved Anastasia version. It keeps brows in place without getting “crunchy”.

Ardency Inn Punker Mascara (M) (Full Review): I started to enjoy this mascara more toward the “middle” of it’s life – around the two month mark. Generally, I keep mascaras for 3-4 months, though I probably kept this one longer than I should have. It got a little clumpy.

January Empties - Misc

Dove Advanced Care Sheer Touch Deodorant(Y): Usually, I’m not one to talk about deodorant – they all work pretty much the same for me in terms of odor/perspiration. But these are designed to “restore” under-arm skin tone as well (you know how it can sometimes get a bit dark under there?). Anyway, while I don’t think this completely made that area a blank canvas, I do notice less darkness. I’ve already repurchased.

*Art of Shaving Shaving Cream in Lavender (Y): One of the best shaving creams around. The Man, as well as my little brother, use the Art of Shaving shaving creams religiously. In fact, they’re always buying a new one before the old one runs out. FYI – these tubs last forever – like nearly a year. At $25.00 USD each, I think the price is fantastic for an extremely high quality product. You may be hearing more about this soon. 🙂

MAC Brush Cleanser (Y): It’s convenient for quick cleansing in between deep cleaning the good old brushes.

MAC Cleanse-Off Oil (Y): (Full Review): A decent oil cleanser to remove makeup. I usually keep a travel size around.

*Dr. Bronner’s Magic Soap – Baby Mild (Y): I talk about how I use Dr. Bronner’s to deep clean my brushes here. The tea tree oil and lavender variations are also nice.

January Empties – Skincare:

January Empties - Skincare

Method Swiss Aqua Pack Face Mask (Y) (Full Review): A higher-end, very relaxing and hydrating mask. If you’re interested I’m giving away one of these mask, along with some others here.

Kiehls Ulta Facial Oil-Free Cleanser (Y): This is the Mans. He has advised me that he prefers it to the one he has now by Dermalogica, because the Kiehls’ wash is “soapy” (he means it foams well) yet still creamy whereas the Dermalogica is more gel like.

Fresh Black Tea Instant Perfecting Mask (Y)(Full Review): A cool mask for hot skin. 🙂

Modere Exfoliant (Y) (Full Review): I tested this as part of the Modere Beauty Box. Out of all the products I tried, this was the best one. It provides a gentle yet effective exfoliation for regular use.

*Murad Hydro-Dynamic Ultimate Moisture (M) (Full Review): A rich but not heavy moisturizer. It was nice but not earth shattering.

Dr. Lin Acne Spot Corrector (Y): A really great 5% benzoyl peroxide drugstore option. It was in my October perfect pairing Favorites.

Clinique All Over Clearing Treatment (M) (Full Review): A decent acne treatment which contains 2.5% benzoyl peroxide which makes it less drying but slightly less effective.

January Empties – Hands:

Bath and Body Works Foaming Hand Soaps (Y): I need me some of these right now, actually. Completely out. I love the Holiday scents (especially the more woodsy and fresh ones like Winter).

*Philosophy Hand Cream in Peppermint Stick (Y): I got this is the Philosophy Holiday Hand Book Trio of three hand creams that was released for the holidays. (It’s still available and on sale at the moment so I may pick up another). The Fresh Cream scent is spectacular (in my hand bag right now).

January Empties – Bath and Body:

Bath and Body Works Body Washes and Lotions (Y): No need to reiterate that these are a permanent staple in my life. Although I prefer fresh or woody scents, I make an exception for the Winter Candy Apple and Vanilla Bean which are released every holiday.

*C.O. Bigalow White Elixir Body Wash (Y): The intoxicating, alluring scent of my man! Hehe. This lasts on the skin very well and I catch myself sniffing him on a regular basis at the end of the day.

  1. Love the empties post! Wow you have quite a bit! lol. I really love the Stila Stay All Day Liquid Eyeliner too. Though I have been enjoying Physician Formula’s Lash Booster + Serum in Ultra Black, great stuff! I highly recommend it! 🙂 Maybe I should start doing empties posts though I take a while to get through stuff lol. 🙂 xo

Ooh. The Physician Formula’s Lash Booster + Serum in Ultra Black just went on my list. I’ll have to look out for it the next time I am State side. 🙂 I’ve debated whether to continue with empties posts as they are so time consuming and I tend to have so much, hehe. I think I may consider leaving out the Bath and Body products. :/

      1. Yeah I could see how empties could really pile up lol. It actually takes me a while to accumulate them lol. You will love that eyeliner!! It’s my holy grail eyeliner lol 😀

That is still ALOT of empties though.. I think I have.. 2 empties at the moment? Doesn’t that sound a little sad? hah! And btw, didn’t you get that MAC Cleanser not that long ago? 😮 xx

Hehe. I KNOW. I go through the MAC Cleanser so quickly! It takes so much to get foundation off brushes plus I used it for my beauty blender every morning as well. I haven’t purchased by usual soap lately…and you know what’s scary? There will be even more empties next month because I have so many bottles of product that just have a little bit left in them….lol. :/

  2. Wow, that’s a lot of empties! I recently finished some body lotion and eye cream, but probably nowhere near this! You use hand wash really fast tho! I thought I already wash my hands like a maniac, but you go through the same hand soap much faster! Or maybe I have a bigger bottle. I’m not even sure 🙂

You’ve found me out Sunny! I’m really obsessive when it comes to washing my hands, lol. In my defense, both Mr. Bear and I are using the hand wash…and we’ve had some guests these past weeks…(as she tries to justify it). 🙂

Great job using stuff up! I am still trying to get enough stuff to do an empties post. I forget to keep stuff! I’m on autopilot to the trash can. I need to try that Dr. Bonners soap for my brushes. Just did a major washing today. Hope to finish tomorrow!

Thanks hun! I have a little basket I keep under my vanity area and whenever something runs out I toss it in there. It helps that our bathroom is ensuite and the room is small so throwing it in the basket when it’s empty is actually easier than taking it down to the trash. 🙂

  3. I’m always speechless when I see your empties posts, but I think you know ti by now! 😛 I totally get what the Man is saying about the cleanser! There’s a huge difference, I screamed yes in my mind when I read it! 😉 xx

I’ve always wanted to try Anastasia brow gel! I wish I could make my mascara last 3-4 months, mine’s usually only good for two 🙁

Really? Wow. 2 months if probably the safer way to go though. I usually have a few open at a time – maybe that’s why? Some of my higher end ones like the Chanel Le Volume can last for ages but for sanitary reasons I throw them out. 🙂

  4. That Mac brush cleanser is amazing. Love that stuff. I also love how easy it is to wash brushes with Dr Bronner’s soap but mine’s the Rose scented one and it leaves an odd smell, which I really don’t like.. :-/ x

That doesn’t sound good! Never tried the Rose. I’d go for either the Baby Mild which is almost scentless or the Lavender which is really pleasant. 🙂 xo
