January Favorites: Makeup, Skincare and Blogs

It’s that time again. I didn’t do a December Favorites, so this January Favorites sort of considers that month as well.

Here are the stars:

January Favorites – Makeup/Skincare

January Favorites - Hourglass, MAC, YSL, It Cosmetics, Lorac

Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blush Palette: (Haul/Review) – To pair with the dark vampy lips that I was still sporting in December (and now) as well as the bright red lips I brought into January, I’ve been reaching for my Ambient Lighting blush palette which contains the lovely Mood Exposure. It is described as a soft, sheer lavender pink but it actually comes across the cheek (my cheek, anyway) like a warm, plummy nude.

MAC Cosmetics Pigments in Rose: (Haul/Swatches, Eye Look): So happy to finally own some MAC Pigments and this one, in particular, which was part of the recent holiday kits. January/December’s Favorite was a toss up between Rose and Tan, but I definitely used Rose more often. A must, I think, if you’re into pigments.

Lorac 3D Liquid Lustre in Opal: (Haul/Swatches, Eye Look) – I couldn’t possible do the holidays without some glitter on the eyes, right? These lovely Lustre Drops are a little more sophisticated than glitter and add that eye-catching gleam. Opal was the clear favorite and the feature of my New Years Eve eye look.  And its so much more than a white shimmer. With the interplay of rainbow colors (like a true Opal), the dimension on this is fantastic. It was part of the Lorac Holiday Liquid Lustre Set but you may still be able to find it online.

It Cosmetics No. 50 Anti-Aging Primer: (Review) – Magic for dry skin in the winter. It’s a primer but I’m counting it as skincare too because it does contain some skincare benefits. For those of you with dry skin who don’t particularly care for silicone heavy primers, this might be worth looking into.

YSL Le Rouge Couture Lipstick in #1 Le Rouge: (Haul) – I haven’t really talked much about this divine lipstick since hauling nearly 5 months ago (it was a Birthday gift). To repeat what I said before, it is a perfect red that does not lean too cool or too warm.  But what really blew me away, as I rocked it more than a few times in January, is the formula. It has almost as much slip as the Rouge Voluptes (which are quite high up on the slippage meter), but it stays in place much better. Even with a bright red such as Le Rouge, I didn’t experience migration (unless I accidentally rubbed my lips). It glides on the lips effortlessly, is insanely comfortable and the dry down is fantastic (are you only suppose to use that phrase for fragrance?). Bottom line: it just looks great on the lips. Don’t ya think? 🙂

January Favorites – Blogs

For me, December and January are very busy months. When it comes to social media, vloggers and bloggers, I’ve pretty much been sticking to my regulars with the exception of a few discoveries. My January Favorites includes a blog I’ve admired for a while now (Connect the Cloths) as well as two newer(ish) gems:

Carsla Connected Cloths

Connect the Cloths: Check out Carsla’s blog. She is a “fashion” blogger that is so much more. You won’t be disappointed. I find myself completely lost in her words at every turn.

Katie Plus Beauty

Plus+ Beauty: Not only do I admire Katie’s blog, but also her journey. Her strength and compassion inspire me. Her positive energy, completely contagious!

The Ting Thing

The Ting Thing: Besides being a devoted follower of Mr. Ting’s hair journey, I’m also a huge fan of his better half’s skincare and makeup adventures.

P.S. Of course, I haven’t stopped loving any of previous month’s favorites which you can check out here.

Thank you for stopping by, Jasmine. 🙂 I’ll definitely check yours out when I get chance. x

  3. Ting

That Hourglass palette is in my virtual shopping basket but I’ve yet to check out. It’s one of those purchases where I wanted it for so long when it was out of stock that when it came back, I couldn’t decide whether to take the plunge or not. I should just get it, shouldn’t I?

I say “should” hehe. Honestly, the blushes apply to the face beautifully. Now, the new eye shadow palettes…those I am not as keen on. xo

  4. Ting

PS Thank you for mentioning my blog! Mr Ting is very happy. By the way, the next instalment is coming this week about his hair loss management journey. A little late as we’ve had a bit of a busy month xx

You’re very welcome. I’m been enjoying reading your features. Looking forward to this week’s installment! I’ll be there! xo

  5. Julie May

I’m still lusting after the hourglass palette! I have one of the blushes and it’s my fave! Great choices girl!

    1. Kimmy

Thank you, Julie. I’m so glad they made the palette permanent (didn’t they?), so that people don’t have to go crazy and can take their time deciding whether to get it. 🙂 xo

  6. Jen

Katie’s blog is a fav of mine too and yours of course! 😉 Also I would love to get the Hourglass palette, its so pretty!

Isn’t she a doll? The Hourglass review is up, BTW. 🙂

      1. Jen

Oh good to know! I’ll go ahead and take a look. 🙂

        1. Kimmy

          🙂 xo

  7. Lia

i am also eyeing on some mac pigments. 😉

    1. Kimmy

I definitely recommend them – especially in the “Travel” sizes and you’ll likely never go through an entire pigment. 🙂

  8. Gyudy

That blush palette and that pigment. Just wow! 🙂 xx

Oh, that lipstick is everything! You can tell how creamy it is from the picture of your lips! *swoon*

    1. Kimmy

You can? Yay! Hehe. You know, I don’t know why I don’t own more lipsticks in this formula. Does that ever happen to you? Like you find something you love but for some reason you don’t get around to buying more? 🙂

First off, thank you so much for the kind words and lovely mention! Thank you so much! Also I LOVE your January Favorites! I would love to get my hands on that Hourglass ambient lighting blush. So gorgeous! As well as that Le Rouge lipstick! It’s a perfect red and looks perfect on you! I am going to make sure that I subscribe to your posts with my email so that I won’t miss any. I will do it with my blog email because my regular email is always filled with junk mail and I don’t want it getting lost in there lol. Lovely post as always! <3 xo

    1. Kimmy

Of course, sweetie! I’ve been enjoying your blog so much and your positive energy is so refreshing and admirable! 🙂 I’m flattered as well by your kind comments. I think I’m definitely going to have to purchase some more of the Rouge Couture formulas in the future. Also, about the subscription thing…I think it definitely is because I’m WordPress.org and therefore not part of the WordPress feed…so unfortunately, subscribing by email may be the only option. I see that you have already and I’m so thrilled! 🙂 xo

Oh of course! I don’t want to miss any of your posts! I really enjoy them!! Though I am just glad that now I am also getting replies to my comments shown up here finally. Thank you so much for your kind words! I try to spread positivity everywhere I can lol haha. 😀 xo

I wish hourglass products were available in my country. Not only the packaging looks perfect, but also the products themselves seem to be very good. I can’t stop looking at the middle blush in your palette, it’s too beautiful 🙂

Well, actually, Hourglass is not available in my country either, lol. But I shop quite a bit online and have lovely friends who bring me back goodies from the U.S. 🙂 Thanks for stopping by Joanna. xo
