July Favorites 2015: All About The Base

As the title clearly states, my July Favorites focuses heavily on base products. Approaching the height of Summer, I’ve been all about creating a natural looking yet fuller coverage canvas. These products have helped me achieve that:

July Favorites

July Favorites

*NARS All Day Luminous Foundation (Full Review): I think it’s official. I am in love with this foundation and it has tied my all time favorite, HG Chanel Perfection Lumiere Velvet. It has a divine, skin-like satin finish that is deceptively light weight yet spectacularly long wearing. Works so well with my combo-oily skin.

*Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer: I haven’t quite found an HG primer, but this one from Hourglass comes pretty close. It’s very light-weight, non-silicone feeling, does a decent job of smoothing the complexion, helps my foundation last much longer and is mildly mattifying. The only thing it falls a little short on is dealing with pores. It’s just so pricey. The travel size featured here retails for $18.00 USD. Eventually, I’ll have to come to terms with purchasing the full size.

YSL Les Sahariennes Healthy Balm Bronzer in Epice (Full Review): My first foray into cream bronzers was a complete success with this beauty! It melts in, creating a natural, seamless and skin-like bronze. The Healthy Balms are limited edition but still available so I’m contemplating a back-up.

Dior Diorskin Nude Tan Powder (Bronzer) in Amber: I’m sorry to say the original Nude Powders were discontinued. However, they were replaced with the Diorskin Nude Air Tan Powders which, from what I hear, are essentially the same. Amber is a long lasting matte bronzer that creates a beautiful, natural rosy tan on my light to medium complexion.

MAC Cream sheen Lipstick in Hot Gossip (Review): A comfortable, mid-toned pink that I can slap on with little effort that looks great.

July Favorites – Social Media (Bloggers):

BeautylyminBeautylymin: A Dublin gal after my own heart who is a lover of both budget and high end products. Love her beauty reviews and her approach. She also suffers from Chronic Lyme Disease, which makes her positive energy even that more impressive. We also share somewhat of an island connection! Raise you hands for Trini men. 🙂

Rachel Shuchat MakeupRachel Shuchat Makeup: Rachel is freelance makeup artist and a stay at home mom based in Toronto. She does reviews of beauty products but where her blog really shines is in her wonderfully detailed, super-easy and relatable makeup looks and tutorials. I’ve loved discovering her blog over this past month or so.

Stash MattersStash Matters: Another lovely Canadian (also based in Toronto), who started her blog as a makeup junkie embarking on a No-Buy for 2015. In her words, blogging is her “outlet to explore the trials and tribulations of going cold turkey from shopping”. She is braver than me, let me tell you.  What I think is truly a testament to her talent is her ability to produce creative posts talking about beauty products (and other things), without necessarily breaking the bank.

    An Impatient Scottish Girl

    1. I can’t recommend the NARS foundation enough, Lauren. It’s amazing!

  2. i haven’t tried that NARS yet. i tried one and didn’t like it-cannot remember the name.

    1. The Sheer Glow? I didn’t think that was for me (nor this one) but it turned out to be unexpected love. 🙂

  3. Thanks so much for the mention, Lovely! I am sooooo tempted by that YSL Bronzer! Not that I need another bronzer………..! xx

    1. Same here. I don’t use bronzer everyday so its not a product that features heavily in my collection, but I’ve been picking up so many lately!

  4. I wish I loved the Nars foundation 🙁 I think I need to get the travel size of the Hourglass primer, haha! I am going to check the Stash Matters blog now and I am already loving the other two ladies 😉 x

    Mummy’s Beauty Corner

    1. I do really enjoy the Hourglass Primer. I hope it works out for you as well if you do get the travel size. 🙂

  5. I really assume that ysl’s will be on your favorite’s list, Kimmy 🙂

    Jhem | JhemSays.com

    1. I do love me some YSL, that’s for sure. 🙂

  6. I’ve read really great reviews on the HourGlass primer but omg, it’s really pricey! Great list of favourites, Kimmy and Hot Gossip looks hot!

    Shireen | Reflection of Sanity

    1. Hot Gossip is Hot! Go get you some. Hehe. x

  7. I never really felt the need for a primer. Is it really worth it?

Linda, Libra, Loca: Beauty, Baby and Backpacking

    1. For my skin, it’s completely worth it but it depends on one’s needs, I suppose. I have oily combo skin with some dehydrating and visible pores and texture concerns. Primers help with these, for me. 🙂

  8. Awwww! As I scrolled down the entry and I see my logo I honestly made an audible AWWWWW sound! So nice of you to mention me – much appreciated! YOUR blog is on my Must-Read list!
I think 2016 is going to my year of Nars. There are SO many items I NEED / want from the brand, the list I have been accumulating is going to be painful for my bank account. That foundation will be MINE!

    1. You’re so welcome, sweetie! I definitely have some lists accumulating and I’m getting more into NARS as of late as well. I haven’t tried a whole lot of their color cosmetics.

  9. Love your July picks, Absolutely love the colour of the MAC Lipstick in Hot gossip, goooorgeous <3

    Serene | I Am Serene L

    1. Thanks, Serene. Hot Gossip is fantastic – one that I think most would enjoy having in their collection. 🙂

  10. I still have to pull out my Nars All Day Luminous Foundation sample and try it out. I’ll totally check out the bloggers you mentioned. I already follow Beautylymin. 🙂

    1. Aww, that was so sweet of you Lisa. I love when we all support each other that way. Try your sample! I’d love to hear how you get on with it. 🙂

I just repurchased the full-size Hourglass primer. I go through it like water. LOL. I love its unique texture and it works well at smoothing and mattifying my skin. I’ll always repurchase as long as they make it! 😀

    1. One day I’ll break down and get the jumbo size, hehe. Just wish it came in nicer packaging like the regular and travel size though. :/

  11. I really want to try the Hourglass prime – I have heard nothing but great things about it! So pricey though! 🙂 x

Brenda BusyBee | Win a Travalo Perfume Atomiser

    1. It is super pricey. But I love it. It’s the best I’ve found for my personal needs so far. 🙂

    1. I hope you get to try it soon, Sam!

  13. I just reread your post with swatches of Hot Gossip. Now I want it. lol 🙂

    1. Hehe. It’s a great one, and I love the way it applies – different from some of the other Creamsheens for some reason – more satin like, maybe.
