Am I the only one who found the press photos and concept behind the limited edition MAC Haute Dogs collection to be kind of hilarious? Of course, that didn’t stop me from checking it out. Overall, the collection didn’t really speak to me – and I thought they could have done much more with the packaging. Despite this general lack of enthusiasm, I did manage to pick up one item: the Mineralize Rich Lipstick in Rare Breed.
MAC describes Rare Breed as a “midtone pinky nude” and I think that’s a pretty accurate description – with the addition of very subtle golden opalescence. It was one of the most unique of the offerings from the Haute Dogs collection and a shade which is quite versatile because of its buildable nature. One swipe gives you a sheer wash of pearly nude pink but with additional layers, not only does coverage becomes more opaque but the pigment actually builds to a deeper nude.
In general, the MAC Mineralize Rich Lipsticks are meant to be a lightweight, hydrating formula with a medium shine finish and I found this to be true. In terms of being long-lasting, Rare Breed survived on my lips about 3 hours tops. A note on application – I have to be sure my lips are in fairly good condition when I wear this because the texture can accentuate lip-lines, especially if I press my lips together.
Did the MAC Haute Dogs Collection appeal to you? Which MAC collections are you looking forward to (or is MAC really not your thing?).
