Who’s ready to shine bright like a diamond with MAC Le Disko Dazzleshadows? I had so much fun playing with these. I don’t know if I’ll ever think I’m too old for glitter – but ask me again in 10 years. 🙂
MAC says: “Le Disko, where glitter and glamour intoxicate and colour gets physical. It’s all see and be scene as the crowd converges under a sparkling aura of lights and erupts into a dazzling sea of eyes and lips. Stand out, shine on. Live a life where every night is a dance rebellion. It’s a full on colour disco, and you’re the reigning queen.“
At this stage in my life, I’m not sure if that description makes me want to go to the club or say home, but it definitely evokes emotion.
In addition to five dazzleglass lip glosses as well as silver and gold liquid liners, I think the most appealing aspect of the collection are the dazzleshadows which MAC describes as “eye shadow with rich, stay-true pigments that impart a beautiful, twinkling sheen”.
As you may have seen in my haul, I purchased two:
Boom Boom Room, a light burgundy with emerald sparkles
She Sparkles, a light gray with silver sparkles
Despite the good amount of sparkle that these shadows contain, they were rather smooth and soft to the touch. Formula wise, I’m going to say right off the bat that there is going to be some fall out during application. I’d already heard this before purchasing, however, so I was prepared. As such, I didn’t even bother trying to apply them dry but went straight for the Fix+. Applied wet they lasted 8+ hours. Note: In the hand swatches, the dazzleshadows are swatched dry, in the “eye looks'” they are applied wet.
Of the two, I definitely think Boom Boom Room is the star of the show. I wasn’t quite able to capture the emerald green sparkles (you can see a little along the lower lash line) but they are definitely there. As you eye catches the light, Boom Boom Room goes from burgundy to emerald to copper & blue. It’s stunning. In the demonstration below, I’ve simply paired Boom Boom Room with a matte black eyeshadow in the crease, some liner and mascara to show it off with minimal distraction. But if you really waned to go all out for a night out, you could break out the falsies (lashes) and do a little more with the brow bone area.
She Sparkles is less multidimensional than Boom Boom Room but still a very pretty colour. There is an ever so slight cool lavender-beige tone to it that makes the overall effect very romantic. Below, I paired with She Sparkles with a satin neutral dark brown shadow in the crease but if I were to do it again, I’d probably go for something cooler. Again, the purpose of this “look” is to single out the dazzleshadow. I think what I like best about this particular shade is that it is more versatile, lending itself better to day wear.
The Dazzleshadows retail for $20,00 USD/£18.50/$24.00 CD. It appears that many are sold out online at MAC UK as well as MAC Canada while MAC US seems to have little more in stock (She Sparkles was still available last time I checked). You could always check your local store (a friend picked these up for me in a Macy’s in the U.S. about 10 days ago). EDIT: The collection is available in Nassau, Bahamas as of Wednesday September 2nd, 2015. Took long enough!
So, what do you think of the MAC Le Disko dazzleshadows? Are they your thing or are you gonna pass?
