MAC Pencilled In Collection: Heroine and Fruit Cocktail

The MAC Pencilled In Collection was released in early Spring 2015. Late to the game, I purchased two of the lip liners in a mini MAC Haul which some of you may have seen on Instagram.

MAC says: “Draw decidedly defined lips with new on-trend shades of M∙A∙C’s profoundly pigmented Lip Pencil, now in carbon-copy shades of your favourite lipsticks.” The two lip pencils that I ended up purchasing were Heroine and Fruit Cocktail. I’m still considering Candy Yum-Yum.

Anyway, I thought I’d quickly share some swatches and brief thoughts.

Heroine –  Bright Purple

The infamous Heroine lipstick is one which never made it to my collection, but with the release of the lip pencil equivalent, I thought it would be great to pair with the many fushcia-purple lipsticks I own. When filling in the entire lip, it applies mostly evenly and opaque, making it a great substitute for the actual lipstick version as well.

Fruit Cocktail – Clean light-peachy coral

For the peachy corals of Spring and the deeper corals of Summer, Fruit Cocktail is the perfect companion (I’m looking at you Estee Lauder Surreal Sun). I really, really love this color. It was more pigmented than Heroine and applied more evenly as well.  Again, can easily be worn alone with a clear gloss or balm on top.

I’ve never been keen on lip pencils, but as of late have been adding a few to my collection. Lip pencils can be drying, but I actually found both Heroine and Fruit Cocktail to be pretty comfortable, no tugging or dragging on the lips. With a gloss top coat they’ll last about 2-3 hours but using a balm instead (which has less slip), I can stretch it to four. Though I haven’t tested the pencils extensively (only once with each), underneath lipstick, they extend wear-time by about an hour or so.

Have you tried anything from the MAC Pencilled In Collection? Any recommendations?

I like the shade Fruit Cocktail for Summer, like you said, perfect to add longevity of all those coral lipsticks 🙂
Have you tried Essence lip liners? They’re super affordable, £1 each, here in UK and they are seriously good and not drying at all! x

I haven’t tried the Essence lip liners! I have tried the Essence gel eye liner before and it’s a good one, especially considering the price, so I’m always keen to explore other products from the brand. Unfortunately, Essence isn’t sold here but I’ll look out for the lip liners next time I’m stateside. 🙂

I don’t have that much experience with MAC lip pencils but I’m impressed so far and I love that they came out with pencils to match some of their popular lipsticks – makes it so fun! xo

LOVE these colours! I’ve still never bought anything from MAC!! :O

Really? That’s pretty amazing considering how prolific MAC is – but I do understand – after a bit of hiatus, I only started repurchasing MAC a few years ago. 🙂

I love Heroine! And Fruit Cocktail looks lovely on you! 🙂

Thank you Lisa! I think I prefer Fruit Cocktail on myself as well. 🙂

I absolutely love the look of Fruit Cocktail, both liners look amazing on you! I still need to jump onto the lip liner bandwagon! But I heard that MAC make an absolutely amazing range of liners 😀 I have my eyes on Whirl 🙂

Thank you, Serene. You’re so sweet! I don’t use lip liners that often myself, just getting into them again really. 🙂 I’m gonna swatch Whirl next time I’m in store. xo

Those are really pretty! I’ve tried the Heroine lipstick and LOVED it, but I’ve never tried their pencils. I like how these are pigmented and smooth enough to be used as a liner or a lip color on their own.

Agreed, Michelle, the versatility of the pencils is what makes them really appealing. 🙂

I have yet to try MAC’s lip pencils. Both colors you picked up are gorgeous! xx

Thank you, Laura. 🙂 And try one! They’re pretty great.

I didnt get on the Heroine lipstick bandwagon either but I do think the pencil looks AWESOME on you! Love fruit cocktail too but I tend to stay away from shades like that because they dont help my teeth look as white as they can bahah.

    1. Kimmy

Thank you, Dee, you’re such a sweet heart. I can get that “yellow” teeth look with certain lipsticks as well but Fruit Cocktail doesn’t do that to me for some reason. Maybe because it has a coolness to it that helps balance out the yellow/orange? Hehe. 🙂 xo
