The MAC Pencilled In Collection was released in early Spring 2015. Late to the game, I purchased two of the lip liners in a mini MAC Haul which some of you may have seen on Instagram.
MAC says: “Draw decidedly defined lips with new on-trend shades of M∙A∙C’s profoundly pigmented Lip Pencil, now in carbon-copy shades of your favourite lipsticks.” The two lip pencils that I ended up purchasing were Heroine and Fruit Cocktail. I’m still considering Candy Yum-Yum.
Anyway, I thought I’d quickly share some swatches and brief thoughts.
Heroine – Bright Purple
The infamous Heroine lipstick is one which never made it to my collection, but with the release of the lip pencil equivalent, I thought it would be great to pair with the many fushcia-purple lipsticks I own. When filling in the entire lip, it applies mostly evenly and opaque, making it a great substitute for the actual lipstick version as well.
Fruit Cocktail – Clean light-peachy coral
For the peachy corals of Spring and the deeper corals of Summer, Fruit Cocktail is the perfect companion (I’m looking at you Estee Lauder Surreal Sun). I really, really love this color. It was more pigmented than Heroine and applied more evenly as well. Again, can easily be worn alone with a clear gloss or balm on top.
I’ve never been keen on lip pencils, but as of late have been adding a few to my collection. Lip pencils can be drying, but I actually found both Heroine and Fruit Cocktail to be pretty comfortable, no tugging or dragging on the lips. With a gloss top coat they’ll last about 2-3 hours but using a balm instead (which has less slip), I can stretch it to four. Though I haven’t tested the pencils extensively (only once with each), underneath lipstick, they extend wear-time by about an hour or so.
Have you tried anything from the MAC Pencilled In Collection? Any recommendations?
