Maybelline Strike a Rose: 100th Anniversary Collection

While abroad, Mr. Bear and I stopped in a Walgreens to pick up some club soda when, wouldn’t ya know, I found myself in the makeup aisle. Whilst there, I spotted the Maybelline Limited Edition Queen of New York 100 Year Anniversary Collection display. I hadn’t heard much about the collection prior but knowing that the items celebrated 100 years of Maybelline’s existence, I had to come away with something. Yes, Maybelline has been around since 1915! Five new limited edition lipsticks were released with this collection and I settled on Maybelline Strike A Rose (800).

First, let’s talk about the packaging. They reflect the typical Color Sensational packaging only the dark purple cap is imprinted with the an image of the New York skyline and the number 100 in celebration of the anniversary. I think it’s a nice touch as add some interest, especially if you are one who tends to “collect” makeup. 🙂

In my estimation, Strike a Rose is one of the more unique colors in the collection. It is a warm, golden pink with peachy tones and an iridescent frost finish. I can’t decide if I think the shade gives off a futuristic vibe or if it’s more reminiscent of 80s’. 🙂

The formula applies evenly and smoothly, wearing for 3-4 hours without eating or drinking. On its own, I don’t think Strike a Rose will have mass appeal. It is stunning and multidimensional, but for practical wear would probably work much better as a topper to another lipstick. Adding it to the center of lips over the a red, for example…Perfection.

The Limited Edition Color Sensational Lipsticks retail for about $8.99 USD.
