My Lip Combos of the Moment (Blogmas Day 4)

Today I’m featuring some of my favorite lip combos of the month. Most have a Fall/Autumn feel to them and even though we’re heading into Winter season, I think they are beautiful pairings that can be worn year round.

Lip Combos 1: The Mauve Lip

My Lip Combos of the Moment - Maybelline Magnificent Mauve and Lipstick Queen Space

Maybelline makes some wonderful lip products and their lipstick in Magnificent Mauve (430) has been in my collection for some time. Applied on its own, it leaves a sheer wash of purplish mauve to the lips. I wanted to spice things up a little so I layered it with my recently acquired Lipstick Queen Big Bang Gloss in Space. The gloss both brings out the purple tones in the Magnificent Mauve as well as adds some dimension to the look.

Lip Combos 2: The Vampy Lip

I featured Rihanna’s Viva Glam 2 in a haul back in October. It is a warm mauvey silver colour with a frost finish. And yes, I’ve worn this on it’s own – and it looks pretty awesome. But one day, I thought – hmm, I wonder how it would look over a really dark colour? So I paired it with MAC’s Cyber, a deep purple with a reddish hue, the darkest lip product that I own. The Viva Glam 2 makes Cyber less flat and definitely adds interest. 🙂

Lip Combos 3: The (Deep) Red Lip

My Lip Combos of the Moment - MAC Diva and Rimmel Nude Liner

Finally, we have the Red Lip. Red can be a scary, scary colour, mostly because application has to be darn near perfect (especially when you are dealing with an intense red). MAC’s Diva is a matte burgundy-red that definitely falls into the intense category. In this case, I didn’t pair it with another lip product, but rather, I’ve been using my trusty Rimmel Scandal’Eyes Nude Liner (005) to line the outer edges of my lips to really frame the colour.  Because the formula is water resistant and substantial (has some weight to it) it also helps to prevent bleeding. Tip on wearing bold colours: Line the outer part of the entire lip generously with a nude liner and then press your lips together. Use a sponge (beauty blender is my preference) to tap/press around the lip. This will both blend in and soak up the excess. Apply lip colour.

Thank you, Jenn. Diva is definitely an iconic shade that has a place in everyone’s collection, I think. 🙂

  2. Hey Kimmy, that vampy combo is so vampy!!! It’s really cool! Thanks for sharing the nude liner trick as well. I’ve got to give it a go! My red lip application skills are abysmal!

Thank you, Katie. Diva is one that compliments so many. I remember you featuring it was well in your Autumn Lip Favs! It looked awesome, of course. 🙂

      1. You’re welcome Kimmy and thank you so much! 🙂 <3 xo

  5. Magnificent Mauve looks like such a beautiful colour but I really need to stop buying lipsticks haha. I have MAC Diva but it comes up too dark on mine so I’m unsure about it. Maybe I’ll wear it more and hopefully it will grow on me! Really enjoyed this post 🙂

Thank you for your kind words, sweetie! On another note, how many of us really need another lipstick? Hehe. Too bad about MAC Diva – have you tried sheering it out – or blotting it on lightly like a stain? 🙂

  6. Love them! The last one might be my favourite, but I love the concept of all the combos! 🙂 xx

For me, it’s a tie between the last two – I love a Vampy lip – but who can go wrong with a bold red, right? xo
