The NARS Audacious lipsticks are beautiful. They have an amazing formula and I’m surprised I don’t own more of them. Last year I’d purchased and reviewed my first two (Vanessa and Dominique), both of which I adore. But, one of the perils of being a makeup junkie and beauty blogger is that you always want to try new things. As a result, the Audacious lipsticks got lost in shuffle. When I saw that NARS was releasing some new additions to this line as part of its Fall 2016, however, I decided it was high time to add more of these beauties to my collection.
About the Audacious line, NARS says: Modern lipstick so shamelessly seductive in touch and texture the sensation is audacious. Unadulterated luxury glides on like satin across skin with single-stroke coverage. Luxurious texture and enriched with ingredients to smooth and nourish lips. Long-lasting.
NARS released five new shades for Fall 2016 which, as far as I know, will become part of the permanent lineup. They are: Apoline (pink rose), Shirley (red crimson), Stefania (deep fuchsia), Kate (purple orchid) and Mona (mahogany). I purchased three: Apoline, Kate & Mona.
If you’re not familiar with the Audacious lipsticks, they are an upgraded version of the lipsticks in the regular line. Presented in a weighted black, plastic bullet featuring a semi-matte finish, the “NARS” logo is embossed on the lower half of the case which also features a super satisfying magnetic closure.
Again, to recall what I’d said in my previous post, the Audacious lipsticks have fantastically rich, pigment yet are not heavy. The texture is creamy without being too emollient. It clings to lips in that perfect way to allow for smooth and even application. I don’t find the Audacious lipsticks to be drying nor are they particularly hydrating but remain fairly comfortable throughout wear time with an even fade. As for wear time, it is quite respectable at about 4-5 hours if you’re eating and drinking carefully. Finally, the Audacious lipsticks are scent-free and taste-free.
Now onto the swatches:
Apoline is described as a pink rose. It’s a warm, mid toned pinky nude that’s very reminiscent of Vanessa. As a matter of fact, I may swatch the two side by side and insert the photo at some point in the near future.
Kate is described as a purple orchid. To me, it’s a grape purple and definitely much deeper than I thought it would be. Nevertheless, I very much like Kate. And it’s quite unique in that there isn’t too much pink to it like many purples on the market.
Mona is described as a mahogany. It’s a beautiful deep red with brown undertones. My first thought was to call Mona a brick red but Nars has it right when the say mahogany – reflecting the strong presence of brown.
And because I took so many photos, here they are again:
The NARS Audacious Lipsticks retail for $32.00 USD/£24.00. As of the date of this post, the new Fall 2016 additions are available on NARS.com, NARS UK and NARS boutiques (realeased 15th August, 2016). They will available everywhere else, i.e. Sephora, Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus and other retailers, on 1st September, 2016.
Do you own any of the Nars Audacious Lipsticks? Are they worth the spurge?
