Ole Henriksen Pure Truth Melting Cleanser Review

By now you all know how much I am a fan of Ole Henriksen’s skincare line. So you can imagine how thrilled I was for the opportunity to test out their newest offering: the Ole Henriksen Pure Truth Melting Cleanser. If you’re a fan of cleansing balms and oils, stay tuned, because I think that the idea behind, and delivery of, this product, is pretty awesome.

Ole Henriksen Pure Truth Melting Cleanser Review

The recently released Pure Truth Melting Cleanser is an “ultra hydrating 3 in 1 cleanser that transforms from a gel to a luxurious oil to a hydrating milk as you cleanse to effortlessly melt impurities and long-wear makeup”. Like other cleansing oils and balms, it is water activated at which point the the oil emulsifies to milk. The star ingredients are:

  • Vitamin C: Brightens, supports natural collagen, and neutralizes free radicals.
  • Rose Hip Oil: Natural source of omega 3, 6, and 9; regenerates, repairs, and nourishes.
  • Virgin Cherry Oil: Rich in vitamins and antioxidants; reduces redness and hydrates.

So what makes this different from all of the cleansing oils, balms and other potions out there?

I think, first and foremost, it is the unique texture of the product. Now you may ask – well what’s the point of the gel texture if it’s just going to melt into an oil on my face anyway? It all seems very gimmicky, right? Well, not really. There is a practical benefit to the texture. I’ve used a good number of oil cleansers in my time and I find that, sometimes, they can be a bit messy. Pumping, pouring or squeezing an oil from a container and then getting it from your hands to your face without spillage can be somewhat challenging (or is it only me?).

Anyway the nice thing about the Melting Cleanser is that you just scoop some out, it doesn’t go anywhere, you can dab it on different areas of your face and it will stay in tact until you actually want to work it into the skin. But unlike most cleansing balms, which can be quite solid requiring you to warm the product in your hands prior to application, this truly melts into the skin. As soon as you rub this gel into your face it turns into an oil. No warming up necessary.

In terms of how well it cleanses and removes makeup, I find that, as promised, the product takes off all of my makeup, leaving my skin feeling refreshed, clean, soft and nourished. This has been particularly pleasant for me as of late because my skin has been very dry due to the acne fighting products I’ve been using. Although it does not get cold here, I can imagine this will be particularly pleasant during the upcoming cooler months. It doesn’t sting or irritate my eyes. And best of all? Like all of Ole Henriksen’s products, it smells divine! It has a slightly sweet, fresh citrus scent that is also very relaxing. I simply love this and highly recommend! A little goes a long way!

  1. Hey Kimmy, great review! You are not alone. I am not a big fan of cleansing oils for the same reason. I don’t like the potential of them dripping down and so on. I’d definitely love to look into this! For the moment I have several cleansers in my rotation, including Clinique Take The Day Off Cleansing Balm, Omorovicza Thermal Cleansing Balm, Emma Hardie Amazing Face Monringa Moringa Cleansing Balm, and Pai Camellia & Rose Gentle Hydrating Cleanser. I mix and match depending on how much I have to take off and how my skin feels like on a certain day 😉

    1. Lol. Thanks for reassuring me, Sunny. I am known to be clumsy so I never know if something is a common challenge or my pure inability to coordinate. 🙂 I definitely need to check out the Clinique Balm at some point. At least get a sample because I’ve heard quite a few people talk about it. I usually use cleansing waters or wipes but lately my skin has craved emollient products. Plus, I tend to incorporate more oils during this time of year. 🙂

  2. It looks so cool! I love cleansing balms (I need to repurchase the Clinique one as I love it!!!), but cleansing oils not so much. They just don’t feel right for some reason… At the moment I’m still trying to get through my Clarins creamy one that I’m not crazy about and I often feel like giving up on it… We’ll see! Loved your review! 🙂 xx

    Gyudy’s Notes Of Beauty

    1. Thank you, Gyudy. I hope you’re weekend has been fantastic so far! Those flowers you got….beautiful. I like oils but I think part of the reason is that my skin needs have changed over the years. I’m also testing out the MAC cleansing oil and the newer one by Boscia. 🙂 It’s too bad about the Clarins cleanser. :/ I say don’t suffer through if you don’t really like it and move on (although I know how difficult it is to throw something out if you haven’t finished using). xx

My current cleanser is the Philosphy Purity Cleansing Oil. If I’m taking off my makeup in the shower, no biggie. But the sink is a mess. The bottle leaks out and leaves white/oily rings on the sides of the sink. I’ll keep this in mind when I run out. I still need to try the scrub you mentioned a few posts back.

    1. I’ve been wanting to try the Philosophy Cleansing Oil for some time now….too bad it’s so messy and the packaging, yikes. I may still consider it – besides the packaging issues, how do you like the formula of the product itself? xx

love ole products, and need to try this one!

    1. I’m mildly obsessed with them, let me know if you try it! xx

  3. Ahh bloggers make me want so many products!
I am very intrigued by the texture. And a great sent is always a plus :).

    1. I know, right? It’s a vicious cycle sometimes. I cannot buy everything I see featured but I have picked up several products because of blogger recommendations and haven’t been let down so far. 🙂 xx

  4. I wasn’t aware they have a melting cleanser, I had only heard of the wipes! This sounds great though – just my kind of cleanser! 🙂

    1. It’s pretty awesome, Karen! I know I am partial to the brand but I really, really enjoy their products and have done for some years now. 🙂

  5. Lovely review Kimmy! I know what you mean with the oily cleanser thing. Yesterday my cleanser’s pump got a little stuck so with a tad more force it squirted all over my shirt. :’) Anyways! This looks like such a lovely product. But since I still have the Body Shop Camomile Oil cleanser and the No.7 Cream cleanser, I am perfectly covered for now 😉 (Even though my inner beauty junkie is telling me I’m not!) x

    1. Girl, I understand. I have two more oil cleansers I’m wanting to test out and two deluxe samples from different brands….the good thing about skincare, though, is that you actually use it up eventually. Not so much with makeup unless it’s foundation or powder…especially for us junkies. 😀 xx

  6. Love the review! I haven’t tried anything like this before! Think I’ll have to look into this! 🙂 xx

    1. Thank you, hun! I really do love this cleansing gel. I tried to put it down to use up some of the other makeup remover type products I have that are half empty or almost empty and I just can’t!

  7. Oml where do you find these amazing products, i love skincare products and will be on the hunt. You are not alone i constantly waste so much tipping and pouring too much.

    1. I’m obsessed with skin care! Have been for most of my life so I’m ALWAYS wanting to try new things. But there are a few brands and specific products that I come back and are always in my rotation. I always have something from Ole Henriksen, Murad, Caudalie and Philosophy lurking around – but there are many other brands I like as well. 🙂
