So I have a little extra post today. Don’t usually post on Mondays but decided to sneak this little guy in. In a purchase a while back, I scored a deluxe sample of the Ole Henriksen Walnut Complexion Scrub. As of late, I’d noticed some milia popping up around my upper cheek area. If you don’t know what that is, milia are those very small slightly white or yellowish bumps you can get on your face that are usually due to some sort of trauma to the skin. It’s basically keratin that becomes trapped beneath the outer layer of skin. They aren’t a pimple or spot and do not hurt. Hate these things and they are almost impossible to get rid of. Don’t exfoliate enough….you might get them. Exfoliate too much…you might get them. Anyway, even though I was using my Clarisonic a few days a week and products with Salicylic Acid which also helps to slough off that dead skin, I was feeling for some good, old fashion physical exfoliation. So I pulled this guy out of the stash (you know the one, the pile, drawer, plastic container where all your extra skincare and samples live).
According to Ole Henriksen, this “densely textured, smooth gliding and terrifically energizing facial scrub” for all skin types is activated with water when “the finely ground walnut powder foams up and slips over the skin effortlessly to awaken beautiful glowing skin”. The star ingredients are: Aloe vera to moisturize, calm and heal; chamomile to soften and soothe; Korean ginseng to stimulates microcirculation and walnut powder as the mild abrasive to aid in cell renewal. It is formulated without: Parabens, Sulfates and Phthalates.
In short, I have really enjoyed this scrub. Not only has it helped with the milia (two are already gone) but it leaves the skin feeling so soft…like a baby’s you know what. It’s been some time since I’ve used a physical exfoliator/scrub on my face and it took some getting used it. My biggest tip, is to work this into the skin very gently. Even though it is marketed as a “mild abrasive”, I’d say the granules are on the moderate side of things. Also a little of this goes a long way. The amount you see in the photo below is just about enough for my whole face, concentrating on those areas where the milia is present. The second photo shows the scrub on my actual face. As described, when in contact with water, this product produces a sort of “foam” which is extremely, extremely mild (almost imperceptible).
Well that’s it, a fairly quick review, for me anyway. 🙂 If you’re in the market for a new facial scrub and enjoy the physical ones, I highly recommend this one. Ole Henriksen products can be found at Sephora or the Ole Henriksen website. While Sephora only has the one size of this scrub (1.7 oz), Ole Henriksen carries two sizes, the 1.7 oz size which retails for $24.00 USD and the 1 oz size which retails for $16.00. So if you’re looking to try it, 1 oz is plenty and $16.00 ain’t bad.
