Rimmel Stay Matte Primer Review (HWB)

It may seem odd to be talking about a Mattifying Primer in the height of what is now, for many, the colder months of Fall/Autumn but hey, you can be oily year round, right? Truth be told, I’d planned to review the Rimmel Stay Matte Primer much sooner but let’s just say it got lost in the shuffle.  So this is for all of you who are interested in mattifying primers year round for whatever reason. I’ve been using this regularly, so there’s that.

The Rimmel Stay Matte Primer claims to be an “ulta lightweight formula that minimizes the appearance of pores and controls shine for up to 8 hours creating a soft, perfectly matte complexion that won’t feel heavy or greasy”.

 Rimmel Stay Matte Primer Review

It is a thick-ish, white lotion-like formula that is a bit heavy in feel and texture. It’s not nearly as light, for example, as the It Cosmetics primer that I recently reviewed or the Hourglass Veil, but it does go on smoothly and the white blends away.

Rimmel Stay Matte Primer Review Swatch

In terms of keeping me matte, I would say it does a very good job. I was impressed at the end of a 10 hour day to look at my face in the mirror to find zero-shine. It is not as hot now as it can be in the height of Summer, but, warm enough to conclude that this a hot weather beauty product. Also, it worked well as a “primer” in keeping my foundation looking fresh (I used it with the Covergirl Outlast Stay Fabulous, Perricone No Foundation Foundation Serum, and Diorskin Star). As far as minimizing pores, however, I can’t say noticed much in that department.  Despite this fact, this is a decent and really affordable primer that is worth looking into, especially if you have oily skin.

O.K. that’s it for this review. Are you all shocked? I know I was when I peeked at the word count of this post.  Keeping it brief today. Hope you are all well. Hugs. 🙂

You’re too sweet, Serene! I’d love to know what you think as well. 🙂 xo

  2. I’ve actually used this before and I have to say I agree with you… It’s a decent affordable primer but not sure it’d something I would re-buy? I think it’ ok, but that there’s better ones out there. I am loving at the moment the 5 sec perfect blur primer by Garnier.

Thank you for your thoughts and recommendations, Levi. I definitely want to try out the Garnier 5 sec blur at some point!

  3. I’ve actually been eyeballing this for a while now, but have been hesitant with buying it. Nice to know it keeps shine off even after 10 hours!

Hiya, Marta! I say is definitely worth giving a go, especially at this kind of price point. If you do try, be sure to let me know what you think! 🙂

  4. Oo this looks so good! I really need a new primer. I can’t stand it when they are too watery I prefer a thicker texture xx

  5. Ahahah I laughed so much at the end because that’s exactly what I was thinking! What’s up with such a short review! But it’s totally fine, I still loved it! It sounds like an interesting product, and since it works… That’s what we really want to know in the end! 😉 xx

I need to start trying out primers. Oh, if they could only make one that hid pores better!!!!

I know what you mean. There are many good ones but nothing (I don’t think) will make pores disappear completely. I find that a combination of something like Benefit Porefessional topped with a light reflecting powder (after all other bases are applied, of course) like the one NARS makes, really goes a long way in concealing them, though. 🙂

  6. I haven’t seen it sold here, but it sounds amazing! I would like to have zero shine in the end of the day 🙂

It’s pretty good, I have to say. I’m appreciating it even more right now as I am testing out another primer and realising the massive difference between the two. :/ xo

  7. It looks like a great product for oily skin indeed. I personally really like Benefit the POREfesional but would like to try something wore fluid like Le Blanc from Chanel or Hourglass Veil primer.

Benefit’s Porefessional is in my rotation as well – great product. I’ve not tried the Chanel Le Blanc – but have the Hourglass Veil and it is a fantastic primer as well. 🙂 Thanks for stopping by, Alexandra! 🙂
