It’s finally happened! I’m now the proud owner of my first ever Burberry beauty products! Made possible – or enabled, rather, by the fact that Sephora now carries the brand and is offering an exclusive Burberry Beauty Box!
Sephora says: This runway-inspired Beauty Box features a trio of favorites to create the signature ‘Burberry Glow’ look. It features essential Burberry makeup essentials in travel sizes, including a fluid base, contouring powder, lip color, and a mini kabuki brush.
The kit includes:
- Burberry Fresh Glow Fluid Base in Nude Radiance No. 01
- Burberry Kisses Lipstick in Military Red No. 109
- Burberry Light Glow Contouring Powder Face & Eyes in Earthy Blush No. 07
- A Mini Kabuki Brush
First off, fair warning – the box is teeny tiny. When it arrived, I was quite surprised. But, its size did not diminish my excitement for what was inside.
Burberry Kisses Lipstick in Military Red
Burberry Kisses are described as hydrating, weightless lipsticks that offer customizable and buidable color. This formula of satin-finish pigments and shiny polymers promises luminous brilliance and is infused with Burberry’s signature blend of rosehip, tea, and lavender. Free of fragrance and lanolin.
Military Red is a warm, solid red that I think would be flattering on many skin tones. And the formula really is something special. First off, the pigmentation is perfect – rich and saturated. Second, it applies like a dream, filling in the lines and crevices to make lips look amazing. Finally, while the silicone in the formula means a smooth, even wear – the finish is a velvety satin matte that isn’t too shiny. Love it!
A full size Kisses lipstick is 0.11 oz and retails for $33.00 USD. The mini size included in the kit is 0.035 oz, putting it’s “value” at about $11.00 USD.
Burberry Earthy Light Glow Natural Blush
Described as a “blendable, lightweight powder blush that enhances the cheeks” and “instantly boosts the complexion with a subtle, heathy-looking radiance”, this oh-so-popular product is said to be a favorite of Burberry Makeup artists for the “hollow of the cheeks to gently slim the face and across the eyelids…to sculpt”. Packaged in the standard sized Burberry eye shadow compact, this smaller size is every bit as luxurious as its big sister.
I understand now. The obsession with this blush, that is. It is a fantastic neutral, light/medium brown with taupe tones that has an incredibly natural finish and a soft, silky and smooth texture that’s probably one of the most finely milled formulas I’ve ever encountered. As promised, it works perfectly as contour for fair to light/medium skin tones as well as a crease/transition shade for the eyes (I’ve added it to the crease in the demo below, with nothing else on the eyes).
My favorite way to use it is as a contour/blush combo. I apply it to the “hollows” of my cheeks with an angled blush brush, and then sweep and blend the color upward onto the cheek bones and slightly onto the apples. It’s perfection. In fact, it’s all I’ve worn since purchasing (besides testing a card sample of Urban Decay blushes for a few days). For those sensitive to smell, this product is fragranced but (to my nose) it’s not too heavy and I don’t notice it after a while.
The full size is 0.24 oz and retails for $42.00 USD. The size in kit 0.08 oz, making it’s value approximately $14.00 USD.
Burberry Fresh Glow Fluid Base in Nude Radiance
Burberry says that this “whisper-light fluid illuminates the complexion, resulting in an understated and elegant ‘lit-from-within’ Burberry glow”. It claims to be a 55% water-infused primer [that] glides across the skin with incredible ease and hydrates instantly while “mirror-flat intense reflection pearls help to blur minor imperfections for a shimmer-free, youthful luminosity”. Touted as a multi-use base, it can applied to bare skin/under foundation, blended on the eyes or as a highlighter for the face.
I’ve been using the Fresh Glow mostly as a subtle highlight or mixed in with foundation to create a more luminous finish. As you can see (I hope) from the swatch below, it is not overly shimmery. And although it does not photograph well, trust me when I say that it adds a beautiful glow to the face. Also, because the base is not heavily tinted (i.e. beige, champagne etc), I actually think it would work on a very wide range of skin tones.
The full size is 1 oz and costs $48.00 USD while the size in this kit is .17 oz, putting it’s value at about $8.00 USD.
Final thoughts: I thought that everything in the box was pretty outstanding. While the beauty box is not a “value” in the sense that you don’t really save any money ounce for ounce if you purchase this kit instead of the regular sizes, it is still a very affordable way to try out some of the superstars of the brand. For someone like me, for example, who has never tried anything from Burberry (besides their fragrances) prior to this purchase, it has definitely stimulated by interest in the brand.
