The Sephora Collection has been releasing products left and right lately and I’ve been eager to try what they have to offer. (If you missed my review of the Sephora Brow Thickener, check it here). I purchased the Sephora Colorful Wink It Felt Liner because I’d been lusting after some similar products when the slightly more affordable Sephora version caught my eye.
Sephora says: These colorful liners can be applied like a traditional liner or used to create a dramatic look. From the blackest black to pastel perfection, each shade offers the highest concentration of pigment, leaving bold lines that never smudge or fade. The no-fray, felt tip applicator ensures extreme precision. Waterproof.
When I first saw the Sephora Colorful Wink It Felt Liner in Baby Blues, two products immediately came to mind: the Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eye Liner in Periwinkle (which retails for $22.00 USD) and the Kat Von D Ink Liner in Nietzsche (which retails for $19.00 USD). I don’t own either of those shades, however, judging from swatches online all three products are very similar in color – essentially, a periwinkle blue.
As far as formula/performance are concerned, I can somewhat compare the Sephora version to the Stila All Day Liner in Black which I have owned (several times) in the past. First off, (mindful of the difficulty in comparing pigmentation when you’re talking about two different shades), I will say that the color payoff of Sephora’s Baby Blue’s isn’t as good as the Stila version (in black anyway). With the Sephora liner, I needed 2-3 coats to achieve the desired intensity.
Secondly, the felt tip of the Sephora version is slightly stiffer than the Stila. For me, this does not present any difficulties in application but maybe worth noting if you enjoy the flexibility of the Stila brush. Unfortunately, I’ve not tried the Kat Von D Ink Liners. But, as some of you may know, the Kat Von D Tattoo Liner in Trooper (yes, they are two different products) is my Holy Grail all time favorite liquid liner. Nothing I’ve encountered, including this Sephora offering, has compared to it. 🙂
These differences aside, the Sephora Felt Liner in Baby Blues is a very nice (and very fun) product. I love the way the periwinkle pops on the eyes. In the demo below, I’ve paired it with a touch of black liner, just on the outer third of the upper lid and in the lower water line in order to emphasis the blue. Once the Sephora liner sets, it does stay put very, very well. In my experience, a full work day and them some (10+ hours). I’ve not submerged myself in water with it on, but I’ve sweated quite a bit and it hasn’t budged.
If you’re looking to save a couple of bucks, I think the Sephora liners are a great option. Especially in the bright, colorful shades you may not find yourself using as often. When it comes to a staple black, however, I’ll be sticking with KVD and Stila.
The Sephora Colorful Wink It Felt Liners retail for $14.00 USD at Sephora.
