September Beauty Empties (2014)

As I sat down to begin drafting my September Beauty Empties post, I had just finished reading Elle’s most recent empties (Elle Sees), in which she said it would possibly be her last empties. Anyway, she made note that empties posts don’t seem to get the same traction as other types of posts, i.e. aren’t as popular. This got me thinking because I find that they are some of my favorites and seem to be quite popular on youtube – but maybe that doesn’t always translate on a blog? For me, there is something satisfying about using a product completely and just as hauls are attractive because I can “shop” vicariously through someone else, I find empties oddly alluring for that same reason. Also, they are great to get across some mini reviews of products. But then again, I have noticed that empties posts in general (not just mine), don’t get many comments so I get what Elle is saying. I don’t know – tell me what you think?

Back to the trash. As always, a (Y) is “Yes” I will re-purchase, and (M) is “Maybe” and an (N) is “No”.

On that note, here we go again!

Makeup:

September Beauty Empties - Makeup - Chanel, Rimmel, It Cosmetics, Loreal

MAC Prep and Prime Radiant Rose (Y): I like this one and the Maybelline version equally. I have a Maybelline Dream Lumi open right  now, so I probably won’t purchase the MAC for a while.

Chanel Le Volume de Chanel (Y): My Love. I reviewed it here.

Chanel Velvet Foundation Sample (Y): Already purchased the full size, in my haul.

Julep Nail Polish (Y): I like this brand and have over two dozen of their polishes.

Hard Candy Nail Polish (M): I found this formula got goopy very quickly.

*Rimmel Stay Matte Powder(Y): A go-to, affordable staple that gets the job done!

It Cosmetics Bye Bye Redness (Y): A wonderful, light-weight base product that covers almost everything.

*L’Oreal Miracle Blur (Y): I liked this primer/pore filler and it does help to blur pores and fine lines to some degree.

*Maybelline Color Tattoo – Barely Branded (Y): I own several of the Color Tattoos and will continue to purchase them. I almost finished the entire thing before it dried out.

Skincare:

September Beauty Empties - Skincare - Proactive, Loreal, Neutrogena, Kate Somerville
L’Oreal Go 360 Clean for Acne Prone Skin (M): I’ve own this cleanser in the past and it’s decent but not special.

Proactiv Solutions System (Y): My boyfriend uses this system from time to time when he is having skin issues and really enjoys it.

*Kate Somerville Blemish Banisher Kit(Y/M): My full review of this system and additional Kate Somerville products can be found here. I think the products I would repurchase are the EradiKate and Hydra Clear Gel.

*Jack Black Double Duty Face Moisturizer (Y): This is probably my boyfriend’s 10th bottle of this stuff, it is his go-to day time moisturizer.

*Neutrogena Make-up Remover Wipes (Y): Always in rotation.

Lise Watier Bio Lift Eye Patch (M): Review, application and demo here.

Origins Plantscription Moisturizer (M): This is a nice day time moisturizer with SPF but not my favorite (reviewed here).

*Ole Henriksen Walnut Scrub (Y): If you read my review, you know I love this.

Neutrogena Acne Spot Treatment (M): Even though this has the same active ingredient (benzoyl peroxide) as many other more expensive versions, somehow it doesn’t work as well for me.

Bath and Body:

September Beauty Empties - Bath and Body Works

*C.O. Bigalow White Elixir Hair and Body Wash (Y): I swear I don’t keep recycling these in the same empties bin, we just love it that much! This is how a man should smell. 🙂

Bath and Body Works Body Washes, Lotions and Sprays (Y): I will always re-purchase products from this brand.

Yves Rocher Body Wash in Grapefruit (Y – If I could): This was part of my Canadian Beauty Haul. The smell is lovely and authentic.

*Dove Clear Tone Deordorant (Y): Already re-purchased – I do think this helps lighten underarms slightly over time. Nothing miraculous – but worth the buy to me.

Hands:

September Beauty Empties - Hand Products

I don’t need to talk about the hand washes, but I want to mention the Tree Hut Shea Sugar Body Scrub. These are lovely (all scents) and I used the travel size in Tropical Mango for my hands before at home manicures. The entire Tree Hut line is so affordable as well. 🙂

Hair and Miscellaneous

September Beauty Empties - Hair - Beauty Blender Solid

American Crew Light Hold Texture Lotion (Y): When Bumble & Bumble’s Grooming Cream cannot be found, this is my boyfriend’s other go-to

Beauty Blender Solid Cleanser (Y): For what it is, this sponge and brush cleanser seems super expensive but it really does a great job cleaning makeup applicators and make’s the process so quick and easy!

ELF Makeup Remover Pen (N): I liked the idea of this but I found it kind of awkward. I used it once and the tip is stained and whenever I went to use it again – well the stain for the previous removal would get on the area I was trying to remove!? It made no sense to me.

O.K. that’s it for this month – how’d you guys do emptying out stuff this month?

Holy smokes, that’s a lot of empties! Thanks for the little overview.

I know…I must have a problem, lol. Heavy hand, I suppose. Some are my boyfriends too! 🙂

I like reading empties! But I guess it does translate a bit better in a video, and maybe as there are lots of empties posts people get a bit sick of them? Who knows! Totally agree with you on the make up remover pen, I found them so annoying as they just got dirty! x

I agree with you Jasmine, the empties and favourites can be over-saturated at times. And THANK YOU for agreeing with me on the makeup remover pen thingy – I thought it was just me because so many people seem to like it? I don’t get it. BTW, I’m trying to do a few more local lifestyle posts so look out for one tomorrow. 🙂 xx

  3. Like, Whatever

I can’t live without my proactive. It’s like crack for my skin. and I’m hooked!

    1. Kimmy

I haven’t used it in many years – the boyfriend rotates it into his routine from time to time. Although I will admit on occasion I use the treatment lotion when I’m having really bad breakouts – it really dries them up! 🙂

Wow. Lots of empties. I guess with change of seasons our skin care & makeup changes totally.

So true – though I’m starting to develop a reputation for tons of empties, hehe. :/

wow you’ve been busy! hehe love this post! so many great things to try x

    1. Kimmy

Thanks hun! It’s so satisfying to finish something – unless is limited edition and never to be found again, haha! 🙂

  6. Gyudy (@Gyudy)

I love empties posts, because if something gets used up to the last drop is undoubtedly worth mentioning. I can’t get over how many things you get to finish each month, my stash needs some serious help! Always love your empties post, you manage to say everything needed in a few simple words! 😉 xx

Yay! I’m getting better at short sentences/descriptions. I’m glad I stopped showing the empty cotton packages though and I may cut out the hand soaps as well. But for the time being, I’ll continue to do them…partly because on those rare occasions when I manage to finish makeup (especially lipstick or blush), I NEED to share that accomplishment with the world, lol. 🙂

Yesterday I had a look at my white L’Oreal nail polish bottle and it’s nearly gone. May paint my nails with it due to excitement later! 😉

        1. Kimmy

Hehe. Woohoo! Finishing a nail polish is a major accomplishment, wow girl, I’m impressed. 🙂

  7. elleseesyou

to help with the over-saturation, i tried spreading them out and doing them seasonally, but it didn’t help. i share them on youtube as well and they are my lowest-viewed videos. i am enjoying a break from saving all the stuff!

    1. Kimmy

🙂 Thanks for your perspective, Elle. It is a hassle sometimes to hoard all those empty bottles, hehe. 🙂

  8. Richel

Gosh you must use these items so often! So many empties 🙂 I think you should continue doing these posts at least from time to time! Like what others have said, the fact that you finished a product to the last drop shows that it’s a great product and deserves to be mentioned 😉

    1. Kimmy

Thank you for your feedback, Richel! I appreciate it! 🙂

  9. Laura

Eh!? That’s alot of beauty empties!! I am lucky if I get one, or maybe two empties! hehe. I have been buying quite alot of skincare and make up over the past 7 months though, perhaps that’s why :’) x

Girl, I am am major skin care junkie. Of course, I’m a makeup junkie as well but I was into skin care for many, many years before I started using as much makeup. I always have several bottles of stuff open and sometimes they run out at the same time 🙂
