It’s a Thursday Bonus Post! And for any locals lurking about, I’ve got some exciting news. A new makeup store: Eye Candy Bahamas is here! Woohoo! Well, it’s not completely new. As I recently learned, Eye Candy Makeup Co. has been around since 2007. From what I’ve gathered, the Bahamian-owned company began combining photography and makeup artistry with the launch of their flagship store on Rosetta Street in Nassau. That store was renovated and re-opened in 2012 and Eye Candy has recently extended that success with the opening of a new location in the Harbour Bay Shopping Centre, East Bay Street.
What makes this news really exciting for me, personally, is that I wasn’t aware the original Eye Candy existed let alone the fact that it carries brands that I’d previously thought were unavailable in The Bahamas. Who’s guilty of shopping in the same old stores? *Raises Hands*. So imagine my glee when I discovered shelves lined with NYX, BH Cosmetics, Cala Beauty and more. It was all I could do to contain my squeals. (P.S. Please forgive the grainy photos but I wasn’t exactly prepared that day when I happened upon the store).
The location in Harbour Bay is small, yes, but despite the size, I was impressed with their selection and availability. Their prices aren’t too bad either. Yes, they’re higher than U.S. retail but let us not forget that these items are being imported and subject to certain duties and shipment costs. A NYX Blush, for example, which retails in the U.S. for $5.00 USD will set you back $8.00 BSD.
I couldn’t be happier to add Eye Candy Bahamas to my retail repertoire as an great place to score quality, yet affordable, cosmetic brands.
Housekeeping: I don’t know if anyone’s noticed but I’ve tweaked my posting and series schedule a bit. The regular posting days remain the same: Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays. However, I’ve added one Monday post a month and designated Thursdays for bonus posts when I want to squeeze in something extra. Within this schedule, there are several regular series and special features. Regular Series include: Manly Mondays with Mr. Bear which fall on the first Monday of every month (hence the addition of Monday), Foundation Fridays (once or twice a month), Brand Spotlights which post on Wednesdays but do not follow a specific weekly/monthly schedule, and my Monthly Favorites and Empties which I consider “series” as they post monthly. Special Features are those series which have themes inspired by the place that I live: The Bahamas. These include: Summer Essential SPF and Hot Weather Beauty which run in the Summer months (May-August), The Local featuring general interest, lifestyle and beauty posts such as this one about The Bahamas which post whenever the moment presents itself, and Travel Exclusive Tuesdays featuring travel/duty-fee makeup and skincare collections.
