Some of you may recall that one of my goals this Summer is to shop my stash a little more. This week I pulled several items from the collection to bring into rotation. Of those items, there were three products that stood out and pretty much constituted “what I wore this week” or my Makeup of the Week #MOTW: my YSL Saharienne eyeshadow palette, Illamasqua Blusher in Lover and YSL Rouge Volupte in Rose Neillia.
I purchased YSL’s Rouge Volupte in Rose Neillia last Summer (reviewed here). It is a beautiful and bright pinky-coral, that I’ve badly neglected, to be honest. The Rouge Voluptes aren’t the most long-lasting of formulas but they feel so good on the lips!
In keeping with the bold theme, I also pulled out Illamasqua’s Lover – an peachy, apricot matte blush which may look a little scary swatched but it’s easy enough to control the pigment level with a light hand.
My YSL Saharienne Eyeshadow Palette is the version that was released in Limited Edition packaging (Chinese New Year Palette), but is available permanently as part of the regular line. Saharienne is a mix of cool and warm tones, with finishes varying from shadow to shadow although they are all are characterized by some level of shimmer: (clockwise) a warm peachy beige, a cream with hints of gold, a cool, grayish taupe, a warm golden brown and in the centre a dark, neutral brown.
When I initially reviewed this palette, I featured a look that was quite dark. However, this week, to compliment bright lips and cheeks, I’ve gone for something a little more neutral using the peachy-beige, golden brown and grey-taupe. Although very subtle, I enjoy this type of look because I can pair it with almost anything. And to change things up from day-to-day, I’ll add a pop of colour to the lower lash line using, for example, my Marc Jacob Highliners.
