Hey beauties! How are you all? I’m back from my break. Well, sort of. I’m busy as heck, as you can imagine. I thought I’d ease into things with a quick review of the YSL No 9 Couture Eyeshadow Palette (also known as the “Love” palette). And just so we are all clear, no I am not some “super mom” applying makeup within the first days of giving birth. I actually snapped the pictures for this post before hand. Anyway, some of you will remember that for my birthday, Mr. Bear gifted me this YSL No Couture Palette in Love which is beautiful composition of peaches and pinks.
At first glance, this doesn’t really look like an eyeshadow palette, does it? The shades included are (clockwise from left to right): a shimmery light peach with satin a frosty pink-lavender, a satin plummy pink, a barely there shimmery peachy gold and a satin shimmer fuchsia pink. With all of this pink…the name “Love” palette really does seem appropriate. BTW, Mr. Bear swears he didn’t get it for the name…and I believe him because he wouldn’t have a clue that palettes have names. Lol.
I note that all of the shadows have shimmery finishes. This makes the palette a little less versatile, especially for those who like a matte crease. Most of the other YSL palettes I own either contain a few satin shadows or at least one true matte that balances the more shimmery/frost shades. In this palette, for example, the plummy pink is a satin, yes, but it is not quite flat enough or dark enough to deepen the crease as much as I’d like.
Although I used all of the shadows in this eye look, the pinks definitely dominate. On my skin tone, the peachy shades don’t really make a huge impact…but they are super pretty for highlighting the inner corner, lower lash line and center of the lid.
Overall, I’m happy with the palette as I don’t really have anything like it in my collection. But this is definitely one for those with specific tastes as it’s not neutral enough to be universally appealing, I think.
Retails for $60.00 at YSL Beauty and YSl retailers.
Are you guys getting sick of my YSL palette reviews, yet? Lol. Don’t worry, there’s only more for the foreseeable future. 🙂
