YSL The Street and I Collection Review & Swatches (Keep an Eye on Me Palette)

The Yves Saint Laurent limited edition “The Street and I” Spring 2017 Collection is meant to be inspired by the graffiti art that colors the cities of the world. Though both rooted in artistry, at first glance, the thought of a luxury makeup brand embracing graffiti as a theme seemed somewhat ironic to me. But the more I thought about it (the history of graffiti and the history of Yves Saint Laurent), the more I acclimatized to the idea. And it is just makeup, after all (wink). So, with that in mind, let’s talk about my pick from the YSL The Street and I Collection…the “Keep an Eye on Me” Couture Collector Eyeshadow Palette.

YSL’s limited edition Keep an Eye on Me Couture Palette is definitely bright and bold. In keeping with the street art theme, the outside of the compact reads: “KEEP AN EYE ON ME” in black block lettering against a vibrant pink banner that is contrasted with the brands name repeated in white.

Inside, things are just as vivid with orange and pink tones dominating. There is medium warm pink (shimmer), a pale champagne (sparkle-shimmer), a dirty brown-grey (semi-matte), a cool barbie pink (satin) and a Popsicle orange (satin). All of the shades, except the dark grey, have a hint of shimmer to them.

I wasn’t sure about the colors at first as I’m not one to wear orange and pink on the eyes very often. The shades do look kind of scary in the pan. But after trying to re-create the look featured in the press photos for this collection, I realized how versatile the palette really was. You can go subtle or bold with it.

As you can see, the look that YSL created on the model below is quite dramatic. In my interpretation, while the orange still dominates, I opted for less bold of a wing. To get this look, I did actually use all five eyeshadows in the quint.

What do you think? I quite like it and am pleased that this palette got me to think outside the box! Quality wise, I’m also happy to report that the formula of the eyeshadows is in keeping with some of YSL’s more recent releases. They are nicely pigmented, smooth, blend easily and wear all day.

The YSL Keep an Eye on Me Couture Collector Eyeshadow Palette retails for $60.00 USD. I purchased my palette from Neiman Marcus, but it is also available at Nordstrom, Bloomingdales, YSL Beauty and similar retailers.

I love the eye makeup that you created, Kimmy but this is definitely way outside my comfort zone.

The packaging is so artsy – how amazing!
That shimmery cranberry shade looks incredible. I like how you blended everything out and added the winged liner – it ties it all together.

The palette looks really pretty, but these are definitely not my colors! I do really like the look you created though, it’s very wearable.
