For the past few weeks, there’s been much talk about Fall/Autumn around these parts. Today, I thought I’d take a step back and focus on the season at hand: Summer. It’s still August, after all. I was going through my lipstick collection the other day, pulling out some products that I’m keen to use before the dark, vampy lips take over. This post, therefore, is all about Summer Lips. Specifically, mini reviews on some lovely Corals which I tend to reserve for this time of year as well as some bright Pinks which transition well towards the end of Summer as we head into September.
Now before I begin, let me just clarify one thing. I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again: I don’t necessarily think that certain colors should only be worn during certain times of the year. You can wear what you want, whenever you want. But certain shades do lend themselves to certain seasons. I did a similar post last year, when I cleared out my Summer stuff to put some of my Autumn goodies back into rotation. And by “cleared out” I simply mean that I put them away in my drawers and relocated the things I wanted to use to be within eyesight.
In the Summer, when I tend to be a shade or so darker, that’s when I think Corals look best on me. In my collection, there are more than a few lippies that fit into that category. However, I want to focus on four that need some love.
YSL Rouge Volupte Rose Neillia (Full Review): This rosy coral shade was released in the Summer of 2014. At the time, I believed it to be Limited but I’ve still seen it around some places. And it’s still available on the YSL website.
MAC Amplified Vegas Volt: This highly pigmented orange coral is vibrant and daring. Looks fantastic with a tan!
Revlon Moisture Stain Cannes Crush (Full Review): More subtle than the others, a wash of subdued reddened coral that is easy on the lips with a decent wear time.
Maybelline Vivid Shocking Coral: With a hint of pink, this shade is perfect for those wanting bold coral that doesn’t lean too orange.
Pinks are also something I tend to reach for more in the Summer – especially the bright ones. And some of those verging on fuchsia, tend to have a berry tone to them that give them a Fall essence, so to speak, and making them great transition shades.
Milani Color Statement Rose Hip: The most “Summer” fuchsia-pink, this shade sure does make a statement. Whats more, the formula on the Milani Statement lipsticks is fantastic – one of the gems of the drugstore!
Revlon Lip Butter Lollipop: Another bright, fuchsia-pink that’s deeper featuring shimmer and cooler undertones. You don’t feel the shimmer too much and the formula has quite a bit of slip. I’m actually almost done with this one.
Laura Geller Liquid Lipstick Fuchsia Fever (Full Review): A warm, hot fuchsia pink, I love this lightweight liquid lipstick formula.
JCAT Wonder Paint Lip Heartadocious (Full Review): I talked about this deep watermelon pink when comparing it to the OCC Lip Tars. Though it doesn’t have quite the lasting powder as the Lip Tars and tends to bleed more easily, I’m wanting to reach for it a little more before we see October. 🙂
Now on to the party! Occasionally I like to host post-specific link parties. I did this while back with my Benefit Roller Lash Mascara review. As everyone’s needs/wants/preferences are different, this a great way for bloggers and “regular readers” alike to get a sense of what products work or don’t work for us. I know for a fact that many of my fellow beauty bloggers have published posts on the topic of Summer Lips/Lipsticks/Lip products and I’m inviting all to share their posts in this Link Party!
