Summer Lips: Corals and Transition Pinks (Link Party!)

For the past few weeks, there’s been much talk about Fall/Autumn around these parts. Today, I thought I’d take a step back and focus on the season at hand: Summer. It’s still August, after all. I was going through my lipstick collection the other day, pulling out some products that I’m keen to use before the dark, vampy lips take over. This post, therefore, is all about Summer Lips. Specifically, mini reviews on some lovely Corals which I tend to reserve for this time of year as well as some bright Pinks which transition well towards the end of Summer as we head into September.

Summer Lips Corals and Transition Pinks

Summer Lips Corals and Transition Pinks

Now before I begin, let me just clarify one thing. I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again: I don’t necessarily think that certain colors should only be worn during certain times of the year. You can wear what you want, whenever you want. But certain shades do lend themselves to certain seasons. I did a similar post last year, when I cleared out my Summer stuff to put some of my Autumn goodies back into rotation. And by “cleared out” I simply mean that I put them away in my drawers and relocated the things I wanted to use to be within eyesight.

In the Summer, when I tend to be a shade or so darker, that’s when I think Corals look best on me. In my collection, there are more than a few lippies that fit into that category. However, I want to focus on four that need some love.

Summer Lips Corals

YSL Rouge Volupte Rose Neillia (Full Review): This rosy coral shade was released in the Summer of 2014. At the time, I believed it to be Limited but I’ve still seen it around some places. And it’s still available on the YSL website.

MAC Amplified Vegas Volt: This highly pigmented orange coral is vibrant and daring. Looks fantastic with a tan!

Revlon Moisture Stain Cannes Crush (Full Review): More subtle than the others, a wash of subdued reddened coral that is easy on the lips with a decent wear time.

Maybelline Vivid Shocking Coral: With a hint of pink, this shade is perfect for those wanting bold coral that doesn’t lean too orange.

Pinks are also something I tend to reach for more in the Summer – especially the bright ones. And some of those verging on fuchsia, tend to have a berry tone to them that give them a Fall essence, so to speak, and making them great transition shades.

Summer Lips Corals and Transition Pinks

Milani Color Statement Rose Hip: The most “Summer” fuchsia-pink, this shade sure does make a statement. Whats more, the formula on the Milani Statement lipsticks is fantastic – one of the gems of the drugstore!

Revlon Lip Butter Lollipop: Another bright, fuchsia-pink that’s deeper featuring shimmer and cooler undertones. You don’t feel the shimmer too much and the formula has quite a bit of slip. I’m actually almost done with this one.

Laura Geller Liquid Lipstick Fuchsia Fever (Full Review): A warm, hot fuchsia pink, I love this lightweight liquid lipstick formula.

JCAT Wonder Paint Lip Heartadocious (Full Review): I talked about this deep watermelon pink when comparing it to the OCC Lip Tars. Though it doesn’t have quite the lasting powder as the Lip Tars and tends to bleed more easily, I’m wanting to reach for it a little more before we see October. 🙂

Now on to the party! Occasionally I like to host post-specific link parties. I did this while back with my Benefit Roller Lash Mascara review. As everyone’s needs/wants/preferences are different, this a great way for bloggers and “regular readers” alike to get a sense of what products work or don’t work for us. I know for a fact that many of my fellow beauty bloggers have published posts on the topic of Summer Lips/Lipsticks/Lip products and I’m inviting all to share their posts in this Link Party!

Beauty Isles Summer Lips Link Party “Rules”

  1. Link up your post that is related to the topic of “Summer Lips” by clicking on the “Add your Link” tab in blue below. Doesn’t matter when it was published as long as it is topical. Don’t have a Summer Lips-type post up yet but planning one? This link up will be open until 10th September, 2015, so if you want to come back when your post is published, please do!
  2. Be a sport and consider visiting some of the other Blogs in the Link Party.
  3. Share the love by including the Beauty Isles Summer Lips Link Party button code in the post you are linking up. You are by no means “obligated” to do this and are more then welcome to link up your post regardless of whether you include the button, but I’d sure appreciate it! 🙂

Thank you Layla. Wearing corals definitely inspires me to break out the bronzer more often (I can be so bad about that). What are some of your favourite bronzers?

  4. Corals are my favourite lipstick shades for Summer as I tend to wear them only when my skin is a bit tanned. Love all your picks, beautiful! And what a great idea with the post party 🙂 Will definitely join it 🙂 x

Thanks for joining, hun. And I agree, love Corals with a little bit of a tan.

  5. Dang it, I only have Summer Nails post and Summer lips will be sometime next week. *sob!* And continue preaching it girl, I agree that no certain shade has to be worn at one season, I’m a strong believer at wear what you want, when you want too!

  7. Oh a party! How fun! You know, I know it’s still Summer, but I’m seriously ready for it to be over lol. I’m one of THOSE people. I’ll be complaining again come Winter hahaha!

Those are some pretty swatches. I have Vegas Volt and love it! Perfect Summer shade ideed.

Hehe. I feel you, I much prefer Fall/Autumn/Winter myself…maybe because it just gets so hot here that at least its more bearable then. But I also love traditional Fall in colder climates that actually have seasons. I think it’s the best time of year. 🙂

  8. You have a lovely collections of lipsticks, Kimmy!
And the selection of shades are absolutely something a girl would want to have 🙂
But anyway, after reading this post, I realized I haven’t done a post about lipstick which I’ve been planning to do a few months ago. So I guess this post should be an inspiration for me do it soon! 🙂

Thank you, sweetie. It’s amazing what’s lurking in the collection…

  12. I agree, you can rock any colour you want any time of the year! I still wear corals in the winter months.
I like that you featured a mix of price points in your selection. I’d be a fun game to guess what brand / shade are on your lip swatches – I bet most people couldn’t tell the difference between YSL vs Mabyelline!
And wow, that Laura Geller Liquid lipstick looks gorgeous, I have not heard about this.
I don’t have any summer lip posts but I’m interested in reading them – so link away, people! 🙂

    1. That would be a fun game! A great idea for a post, hehe. The Laura Geller Liquid Lipsticks are awesome! And I never hear anyone talk about them really. 🙂

  13. I love corals during summertime, but rarely wear pinks or fuchsia, I just don’t like the way they look on me…

    1. What are some of your favorite colors to wear? 🙂

  14. I love all of your lippies chosen here but that YSL one, OMG!!!!! I am so boring with my lip choices. I am such a scaredy cat and always wear nudes, mauves and Pinks. But I do like very pale, pinky muves for Summer.

    1. Girl, break out the coral! I think pinky corals would look amazing on you. Thanks for sharing your link, Julie. xo

Wait, what’s Jcat? That liquid lipstick looks amazing! Where do you find this brand?

    1. I found JCAT at an ULTA in the US but they have their own website: 🙂

  15. My heart literally skipped a beat at the sight of all those corals!!! <3

    1. Hehe. Thanks, Melissa.

  16. Such thorough swatches – so useful to actually see the colours properly! Need more coral in my life x

    1. Thank you, sweetie. I hope they were helpful. x

  17. These are gorgeous shades! And these swatches are so helpful 🙂 love the YSL shade, Revlon Lollipop and Maybelline Shocking Coral 🙂 xx

    Jasmine Talks Beauty

    1. Thank you, Jasmine. Lip swatches can be murder on the lips (as you know) but I try to do them when I can. 🙂

  18. Great choices! I love the formula of the Revlon ColorStay Moisture Stains

    1. Me too. They are really great. 🙂

  19. You got me! I’m already thinking about my autumn lipsticks and the gorgeous deep berry tones, so it was nice to take a step back into summer with these shades. Corals look amazing on you but I am definitely more of a pink lipstick girl in summer. Laura Mercier Fuchsia Fever is stunning x

    Beauty with charm

    1. I remember your Pink lipstick post – you should totally link it up – if you want that is. 🙂

  20. These look all just beautiful <3 I'm love to wear coral and fuchsia shades on summer x

    1. Yay! Me too. What are some of your favorites?

  21. We really are lipstick friends! Hot pink and coral are some of my favorite lipstick shades! <3

    1. Yay! Perhaps one day my Coral collection will rival yours, hehe. Doubtful, though. 🙂

  22. Ooo lovely picks, absolutely loved the shade, unfortunately I don’t own any of these colors and now tempted to get some 😐

Definitely check them out. Especially the drugstore options – if you don’t end up wearing them that often, it’s not so much of an investment. 🙂
